He had a bad outing today. It happens—and I actually think it’ll help him going forward.

Agreed

I love Hess and his intensity but am nervous every time he is in there. He has a 5 ERA over the last two years. It's not like it's an aberration at this point when he gets rocked.

It's ok to hate but everytime he comes in whether starter or closer u can bank on Him getting up homeruns

Walk, hit batter, home run.
Its been a nightmare.
No lead is too big.
I wish him the best and sincerely hope he gets control, makes the league, and sets positive records.

I hope that I am wrong and my feeling are because I truly want him to be successful. He has so much potential and maybe, hopefully, Hess will be the hero that gets us back to Omaha or help us win it all.

Not a liability, just not that trustworthy to deliver what’s expected.

I see a lot of people acting like this was a one time deal with Hess. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings against Arkansas, 2 in 1.1 innings against UNO, and now 3 in 3.1 innings today, with a bad call having saved him from giving up a 4th.

Why are people acting like he's been dominant, and this is just a blip on the radar?

Look, we have to run him out there, from time to time. We don't have any choice, right now. But he is not the same guy from two years ago. And we are not at the point in the season where we have time for him to "figure it out". He's got to get it done now, or his last two years here will have been an unfortunate waste.

If Hess can't commanded his pitches any better in the Minor Leagues, his best days are behind him.

Didn't he have a bad outing last week too....seems he has had quite a few bad outings this year, and last year.

You mean other teams have figured out a 2 pitch right that throws 97?

No shite. But this is college and any pitcher who can come out the pen and throw a 97mph heater and bring a 12 to 6 breaking ball for a strike right behind it is a damn good asset to have

He is extremely inconsistent! His era is over 5.00. You call that dominant or effective?

Not any more so than the rest if our relievers to be sure....I mean hell there isn't one pitcher on this team that I trust to put in in a tie game with runners on 1st and 2nd with less than 2 outs.

It’s not that teams have figured him out, it’s that he’s not controlling his fastball. That led to the walk and the batting practice fastball that was hit out of the park. This has been his problem all season, and it’s the reason I argued against those saying the problem was that he was starting instead of closing.

A guy who needs 25 pitches to get through the first inning isn’t going to magically improve when he closes. His stuff is excellent, though, when he controls it. The frustrating thing is that the same can be said of Fontenot and Peterson.

"Why are you mad that you broke your foot? You act like you never sprained your toe two years ago"

That's kind of what that argument reminds me of. No one is saying Hess never gave up runs in 2017. We're saying he's giving up a lot more runs now. It's not a debate. It's a fact. And he has to get it together right now.
