re: Here's the incident in question. Is this really worth a carryover penalty to begin with?

The whole situation is BS.

Swinging a fist in football is frowned upon. Sanders got waived (NFL) the week after swinging in preseason. Push & shove = unsportsmanlike. Swing = suspension. I have an issue with the NCAA timing.

If Brian Kelly is worth a shite as a human being, he sits this kid down and says, "Want to be a professional? Act like one. You should be embarrassed. Take your licks and learn from this situation. You will be on the sideline for one half. I expect you to support your teammates and learn from the first half, so that you are prepared for the second."

Video is zoomed a bit much to see, but did he push the official out his way?

Holy hell now that punishment is even more chicken shite. I don't blame Haulcy retaliating. You don't shove someone from behind and expect nothing in return.

The timing is what pisses me off

He threw punches so suspending him is fine. The much bigger issue is no one but the Big 12 and his former coach at Houston being in the know.
I could be wrong, but it sure seems like the NCAA didn’t even know he was suspended until Clemson brought it up and they reached out to the Big12 for “clarification”.

Yeah it’s just a weird deal. A lot of people are mad at the NCAA, but I don’t think even the NCAA knew he was suspended. It appears only the Big12 and Houston knew. And agree or disagree with their choice, I can certainly understand why Houston didn’t let his future school know, either intentionally or as an oversight.
I can also understand why LSU, even if they knew about the ejection, had no incentive or reason to “get clarification” and prompt a possible suspension when by the facts known at the time he wasn’t suspended.
It’s a strange deal, but understandable given the circumstances, and certainly a direct result of the current transfer portal. At the end of the day, it’s really not a huge deal. It happened and will be a non-story and in the past after a mere 30 minutes of football.

I don’t disagree with you there. I think the NCAA dropped the ball by only notifying the school. If the school was getting punished then fine, but if you are punishing a specific player no matter what school he plays for, you have to notify that player directly.

Again, the NCAA didn't send the letter to Houston. It was the Big 12 that handed down the suspension.

Sorry. Big 12, NCAA, or whoever I don’t really care. They should have notified the player.

I still think we should be able to appeal, and then sit him next game, due to how this all went down, and the timing of it. Hell, Michigan gets to choose the games their coach must sit out.
Frick Houston and Frick Clemson.

I imagine it falls on the coaching staff to inform the players. The issue here is there should be language in play that states the coaching staff has a responsibility to inform all parties involved in a suspension.
Seems to me the Houston coaches never told Haulcey (They probably knew he was thinking about transferring) and they didn't think it was their problem anymore.
ETA: It should also be required that they list any known pending suspensions in the player's transfer paperwork. People are blaming the NCAA, LSU, Clemson and the Big 12 when the real problem is Houston's coach and/or AD. They knew the Big 12 had suspended Haulcy and they didn't tell anyone about it, unless Haulcy is lying about never being told because he definitely wouldn't forget something like that.

I mean they definitely should tell the player and I agree that there should be language that states that. But if there isn’t, then I believe whoever is Reddit the suspension should be responsible for notifying the player of said suspension.
I also believe that there needs to be some sort of system to track all of this. It’s insane that the only paper trail is “we sent a letter to Houston”

Agreed. We don't even have a specific date the letter was written or the date it was received.
