He won 40 games, finished 3rd in the East and took them to a Regional in his second season. That seems miraculous considering they were at the bottom of the SEC for a few years prior.
Vitello has been one of the best recruiters in college baseball for over 10 years, and brought in talent at TCU and AR before UT. Why would someone find what he did to improve UT's talent to be miraculous. Paul didn't exactly leave JJ, who was a late hire, a stout overall squad. Starting pitching? Relief pitching? Re-recruiting guys that were going to leave LSU for MLB aspirations? I am definitely disgruntled with the infield errors, especially the lack of progress from Thompson in the field. Clean up the errors and with the ongoing pitching improvement this team can win a lot of games. People act like LSU has been a super power since 2017 and they haven't and that's on PM.

It's incredible that people can say something like this, and expect to be taken seriously. One guy took over the doormat of the SEC, while the other took over a super regional team, with a bunch or returning players, and a very talented class of newcomers
The LSU team barely got in the tournament and got hot in the regional with a good draw
Don’t act like they were a top 16 team most of the season last year

quote:. LSU backed into a regional as a three seed and we’re fortunate it was a very weak regional. That was a really bad LSU team and they lost Landon marceaux. Bc a lot returns from a bad team doesn’t magically make them good. He was left with very questionable pitching which he and his staff have done well with for the most part. This was a rebuild regardless of what everyone said.

The whinny bitches on this board. The people that want the self-gratification yesterday, give CJJ 2 years at least recruiting his guys and I'm sure we will all be very happy with the results.
LSU has NO legit Friday night starter on this staff, we do have good pitchers but need to piece it together for this year.
LSU doesn't recruit against other programs we can get who we want it's just getting them to campus dealing with MLB.
LSU is lucky to have this guy as their coach.

This is dumb. Please tell us how vitello did during his first yr as Tennessee’s coach.

Who do you have in mind?
Hill was a 2nd rd pick and coming off an injury. It would have made no sense for him to return. He hit his arm in the 3rd SEC series. Marceaux was a 3rd rd pick.
AJ - wished he would have. We could use him but he's really the only one.

Man, you don't know much about sports, do you? That was a young, talented team that got off to a horrible start. They started to grow up and play better way before the regional. And it was not a good draw. Getting sent to Oregon is a terrible draw.
Those players are now a year older, and we added some very key transfers, as you might have noticed. Those players were FAR better defensively, last year. Players aren't supposed to regress.

You are only proving your general ignorance about this baseball team. A "bad" team doesn't make a regional. There is a difference between "not up to LSU standards" and "bad team". And, as I just told another poster, that was a very young team. They are older now. And what we lack in rotational depth, has been made up for by a much improved bullpen... The one thing that HAS improved. We are getting better pitching, overall, than last year. The talent in this lineup is too good to be so inconsistent, and the defense is an absolute joke. How did the defense become so much worse in one off season?
This isn't a rebuild. Mainieri retired. He didn't get fired after a losing season. Some of you will tell yourselves anything to make excuses.

I think this was the case of the AD not wanting to hire an arsehole for the job. I am of the opinion that whenever an arsehole is available you go after him. Especially if he can coach and recruit good players

Lol way more than you know
They played weaker teams to end the year and still didn’t dominate
Lost to a shitty Georgia team in the Sec tournament and then got sent to a regional where they were the most talented where the host team didn’t have much of a home field advantage
They also lost their top pitchers
Thompson and Doughty have regressed on defense
Thompson, Gio, millazo have improved at the plate
Most of the returning pitchers have improved

I mean, Vitello was 29-27 and 12-18 in the SEC his first year at Tennessee. Comparing a coach in their 5th season at a school, to one in his first seems like a bad idea

I could be wrong but I believe Vitello will get to the top and probably win a title, but the emotion that steers him will lead to a epic crash afterwards
Well we just had this and it still resulted in the best year ever to be a Tiger.
