I don't think I've ever seen this much disparity about an upcoming LSU season.

Don't get excited about this. The networks script disagreements to create issues to fill airtime. He's probably pissed that he has to stand up for LSU to play his character.

I was listening to Sirrus the other day and one of the guys, forget who, said it is kind of strange that LSU has 10 guys picked as preseason all SEC and yet none of the commentators are picking us to contend for the SEC championship. The other dude (whoever) said it comes down to quarterback play and execution on offense. He suggested that if Harris can complete 50% of his throws, LSU can compete for the national championship. That's kind of where the objective opinion is.

Bottom line is that if LSU can win solidly in the first three games, they will quickly become the national darling. Don't be taken in by any of it. It is a long season and the hardest part is the last part.

Whenever he picks considering LSU, I go the opposite way. Last year he picked Kentucky over LSU. Plenty more examples.

Herbstreit and ESPN hate LSU. It wouldn't surprise me if he picked us as a CFP team in order to jinx us. The more hype a team gets the harder it is for them to live up to expectations.

Agreed.... Anything he says against LSU gets him hated, but he is BY FAR the most knowledgeable "analyst" ESPN has.

So according to the analysts, we'll finish somewhere between 6th in the SEC-W and in the playoffs. Got it.

Seriously, prove this. Such a tired quote.

This actually has me more excited for this season than anything else I've read about the Tigers.

Baylor

Gimmick offense, no defense. Play a team with a good defense that can match up....make a few stops, and you will dominate that defense. That type of team is tailor made for teams like LSU who control the ball.

TCU

Has a pretty decent defense, but offense is still gimmick.

Just curious, but do you consider Oregon and Ohio St's offenses gimmicky? Because they both played in the national championship game last year and run somewhat similar offenses to TCU and Baylor.

I know Baylor is more air raid than spread option, which is what I would classify the other 3 as, but they are all in the spread realm.

If he had picked against us the first 30 comments in this thread would be by the same people saying what a moron he is instead of praising him.

Last season.

So does this mean the rant doesn't hate herbie now, or is this a death knell for LSU.

Keep in mind he picked Iowa as a darkhorse last season.

The only ESPN screaming head who hates LSU is Danny Kannell, but that's because he's a walking #TalkinBoutTheNoles meme. And that's not LSU specific, he just hates the SEC.

Herbie likes making risky calls like this. It's his MO, as people have pointed out regarding Auburn with Cam. He likes to champion a team and ride them as long as he can. While LSU seems like a risky call, that's nothing compared to picking ARIZONA ST. Heck, I think his OU call is the craziest of the three because at least LSU has a potential answer to its QB problems.

I can take or leave predictions, they are what they are. He's just generating clicks. But what I do find interesting is how many LSU players were up for his individual awards. Of his 12 awards, and LSU player is among the nominees 5 times. And he seems to be the only national writer who seems aware that Beckwith exists. That's the part I find encouraging.

I generally hate herbie and this is probably the first in 15 years he has given LSU some props

Oregon definitely gimmick.....see what happened when they played LSU in 2011....putting up 50 a game otherwise....and then when they played Auburn in the NC....same thing...got shut down.

Ohio State a little less so, but let's be honest....Alabama has never had much success against spread type teams....and then Florida State was highly overrated due to playing in weak conference....resulting in the two teams playing one another. The spread will work against certain teams.....but there are other teams that will shut it completely down.

LSU is like the Wildcard, Miles has not named a starter the qb play we have seen aside from brief flashes of BH potential has been pretty dismal. We will not be a pushover for anyone because the defense will be solid and the run game will be phenomenal regardless if people know it's coming. If BH comes out lighting it up look out we may be downright scary. If not then we will struggle to finish in top 15
