In baseball recruiting news, Coach Paul Mainieri announced on Monday the signing of Kevin Berry who was the starting third baseman and a relief pitcher for UNO. Berry was only 2-5 last season, but UNO was not a very good team, to say the least. Berry is pitching very well this summer in the Cape Cod League. Berry, who played his high school baseball at Brother Martin in New Orleans, will have two years of eligibility remaining.

I donot believe he has to sit out because UNO is now Division III........not 100% though.

No, since UNO is dropping down to Division III, their players are able to transfer and play immediately. The guy we are getting from Tulane I believe will have to sit out next season. Not sure how that goes towards counting against the 35 man limit.

Nope. UNO's baseball program is dropping down a division and current players can transfer and be immediately eligible.

Glad to see another Catholic League player on the team. I think now we are just missing Shaw(still in the catholic league??) and St. Aug. Maybe Chad Jones will come back and pitch a few innings.

I think Berry will be a pitcher. It looks like all he is doing is pitching in the Cape. He had a couple decent outings and then a bad one on Saturday that inflated his ERA. He didn't have good numbers at UNO, so he must have good stuff to be invited to play up there this Summer.

I'm also basing that on the number of corner infield and utility type players that are currently on the roster. With three catchers coming in it doesn't seem to me that Dozar is in the plans behind the plate and could be in the mix at the corner infield spots as well.

If we get Jacoby Jones, and we have this kid, we are going to have great hitting throughout the lineup and solid depth. I'm already excited for next year. Our bats maybe even better, which is scary to think.

Rhymes is more likely to be the answer at a position than Berry IMO.

They must see something in his arm........He did get invited to the Cape Cod league.

A year at UNO then Summer in Cape Cod,,,,they can't say they didn't know what they were getting.

As for walk-on talent, I'm pretty sure someone would have offered him a schollie if LSU didn't....hope you are wrong and the coaches are right.

LSU didnt offer him out of HS 2 years ago, and in 2 years at UNO, has done nothing of note. Just saying.

this prob tells me that guys like Didier and Dozar may be gone and they are trying to find whoever they can to help at 3rd
