Owning it for once. But it would be nicer to just not screw it up in the first place after months of seeing what you have.

Hellmers is a strong willed kid. But putting him at 3B first games of the season was rough. He’s a stellar 1B and 6’4”... like, tailor-made for 1B.

I understand putting him in to start the season, just not at 3B.

You have a stellar 1B playing 3B, a stellar SS on the bench, a capable? 3B playing SS and a stellar OF playing 1B.

I don’t get it.

remove the two unearned runs that came directly from his errors, and LSU wins even with the relief meltdown.

made a bad throw on a routine ball

Then booted two routine grounders
this. Literally every non pitcher catcher should be able to make those plays. How this is PM I don’t get. Next week, yeah. But these lineups were pretty scripted.

The ball will find you when you are struggling. Watching his approach at the plate his swing looked long. This experiment was not effective and I hope that Bianco isn’t playing CF in the future.

CPM went on at length on Thursday about his gut feeling to play Hellmers. Hellmers cost us the game today - 3 Es, allowing 3 unearned runs.

Nearly had a 4th error. Early in the game on one of the bunts, he made an wild throw but they ruled it a hit. Tre Morgan made one hell of a play to stop that ball from rolling down to the bullpen making that bunt into a double or triple.

the bunt single in first batter of game could have potentially been called an error.
throw looked like it beat the runner, but was higher than Amy Winehouse

You sure about that??? No telling how the game goes from that point. You are now talking about different pitching scenarios and pitch counts might have changed as well as personnel

Kid was struggling at the plate, struggling in the field.

We were yelling at the tv for coach to throw in the dam towel. Let him sit, regroup, and try again another day.

There is more to it than this. People are saying he shouldnt even been starting at third base? Why? Also heard hes not even an infielder but a backup pitcher? Any truth to this?

Hellmers worked in the fall and spring as a pitcher and 1st baseman/DH mainly. He showed a little pop in his bat in scrimmages. He was never really mentioned as a starter at 3rd base, but CPM said he had a gut feeling about Will opening up at 3rd base. Admittedly, he was wrong.

Hellmers looked very awkward in the field and at the plate this weekend. He looked very unnatural throwing across the diamond and booted several balls that were well hit but a seasoned D1 3rd baseman makes those plays.

Hellmers played varsity 3B as a SO, then moved to 1B as a JR. Played 1B and a little bitty bit at 3B from there on out.

He’s a solid P and a really good 1B. Not sure why he got in the mix at 3B... if they hadn’t been playing him there in the fall and spring so far, its pretty bad that they threw him out there to start the season.

He can hit well. I expect him to regroup and be productive here.
