I will be. He's the voice I associate LSU baseball with. It will be strange hearing another voice doing play-by-play for LSU when he leaves

Hanagriff does a ton of baseball play-by-play throughout the season. during basketball season and the middle three innings of every other game.

I'll listen, and will miss him. Listening to Hawthorne goes back a long way for me, it will be the end of an era. Those of us old enough to remember, LSU may not have been on television 1-2 times a season in some of the lean years, or before the explosion of cable networks. The radio link was the only connection we had.

A lot of the people who complain about Hawthorne are going to complain about the next guy, too.

The complaining will never end as long as there is a tRant.

Solely? How many people does it take to move a radio dial?

I expect his last call will be in Omaha and I plan to be there! He has been great and a true gentleman who loves LSU. I remember he once wished my sister a Happy Birthday when she was in the hospital in bad shape. Got to talk to him one evening before a basketball game and asked about his most unsual broadcasts and he told me that on one of his first football games as the voice of the Tigers, they lost power completley and he had to broadcast the rest of the game over a telephone line! He will be missed by many!

Absolutely. I will never understand all the hate on here he gets. He messes up some sure but I just laugh it off....at the beginning of the radio broadcasts right as they come on the air they play his call of the ending of all 6 championships and I get chills every single time listening. Definitely gonna miss his voice calling games.

Hawthorne screwed up 2 of the 6 baseball national championship calls. Not a great record with those.

96: "3 run homerun"
09: "LSU takes a 4-0 lead, falls behind, and comes back to win 11-4"

The dude has a dream job and messed up on of the most legendary plays in CF. He needed to be put out to pasture a long time ago.

Some of the best radio I have ever heard in my life happened 26 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. LSU was playing at Texas A&M in 1989 in the baseball regional. Most people know the story....A&M was #1 and LSU had to beat them twice on Sunday. LSU did win game one and then played game 2 at 7:00 that Sunday night....winner take all.

Regional games being on TV was unheard of back in those days...we had to rely on radio. From about the 6th inning on of that game, about 5-6 of us just sat quietly around the radio hanging on every word that Jim said. It was great drama and Jim brought it home to us. LSU would win in 11 innings with a lot of drama in both halves of the inning. I will never forget how riveting his call of that game was.

Maybe Jim's best days are behind him....it happens to all of us at some point in life. I thank God that he has given me 30 or so years of great memories that I will always cherish. Haters are going to hate....that is what a message board is for. frick the haters and best of luck, Jim, in your retirement.

His call of Warren Morris' "shot heard round the world" (which I heard live, BTW - ) - is one of the Top 5 or 6 college radio calls of all time.

No $hit.

man ya'll some hating arse mf'ers. Say what you will for all of Jim's recent gaffes he's been a great voice for LSU and provided some great memories for us over the years. His voice is synonomus with LSU for me. For every mistake he made there were 10+ legendary calls he made that stick in your head.

agreed......most of my LSU life can be associated with him. Most of the haters on here are the young punks that are clueless. These kids are what make our fanbase look bad.
