What most people do not realize is very few people can come actually call ALL 3 major sports. It takes a lot of knowledge, prep time and Mr. Hawthorne does a yeoman's job. Be careful what you ask for......

I started a thread about Hawthorne doing this before and some of the stupid people on the rant didn't seem to get what I was talking about. It's a terrible call from Hawthorne.

If this really happened, he needs to be re evaluated. That is a joke and I have never heard of any announcer doing that. Wow.
Hawthorne did that all last season in 2013. And by all last season I mean almost every game.

As far as Brando, his opinions suck at times, but like it or not, being the voice of the Tigers might be a step down for him. The dude is respected and well liked by many.
I wouldn't mind it if he came home to Baton Rouge. I've heard some of his old LSU basketball broadcasts and I thought he was awesome.

Because you were too stupid to realize that when the side was retired, the game ended?
Is that it?
You were confused?
You needed to be told that the game was over?

Gray that seems to be a common source of frustration among the complaintants in this thread.

Why oh why can't Jim be perfect like the poster on the rant?
Posted on 4/27/14 at 9:44 pm to vjp819
Well, I guess we figured it all out.
Half of us are too stupid to know whats going on during the game.
The other half of us are emotionally dead inside, and need someone to tell us to be excited about a play being made, or a homerun being hit.

If hanagriff ever takes over I will make sure to point out every mistake he makes.
You want him for baseball and someone else for football? Guess we will need a third one for basketball?
It will actually be interesting to see how all this gets chopped up once Jim steps aside.
Patrick Wright will get something, I am sure. It has been discussed here before, but he has to have been around long enough to inherit something...and he is actually pretty good at what he does with the women's sports (I am one of the few here who religiously follows women's sports, and I think he would be a good fit)
Brando and his PMAC-sized ego are not wanted here. Move along. Nothing to see.
Hanagriff and Wright are actually good to listen to for baseball...they actually "conversate" instead of Hanagriff spending the whole time trying to correct Jim...
I have said it 1000 times on here...I do NOT want some total outsider to come do football...it needs to be someone with ties to LSU. I just can't imagine some guy coming in who knows nothing about LSU and doesnt already have passion for LSU to just come here and take the job. Maybe I am wrong...who knows.
And I think people are too hyper-sensitive about Jim here. I would be curious to see if the outrage exists among fans who don't post here. I have always felt this board represents the vocal minority most of the time.

This. Please find a better voice than Hanagrif. Dude bores me to tears. Patrick Wright is the guy if they 're gonna stay in house.

I can say this...no matter HOW it all shakes out one day, this place will blow up because there is no way that everyone will be satisfied.
You can throw the names Hawthrone, Hanagriff, Wright, and Brando out there and each one has haters and each one has supporters.

Jim Hawthorne is part of Tiger lore. Does he make mistakes? Yep. More than others? Dunno.
I've listened to him tons over the years and have never, ever had a problem. I'm usually so tuned in that if he makes a mistake it's automatically corrected - it's simply no big deal.
That said, it's time for an exit strategy. I don't want a robot-announcer. I want some one who can feel it as a Tiger and then express it in words.

I don't want Hanagriff doing PBP for the network.
He's much too valuable speaking his mind on the post post game show

Agree with OP. It's been time.

I've now realized that I hate people who hate Jim Hawthorne. Even with the Jack Hunt debacle. I don't care. It's never been tough to follow the guy and his voice is familiar.
So go frick yourself. Jim is the greatest.

Brando is kind of a jerk, thinks very highly of himself, and would tell you that the renderings of his bowels smells like Chanel No 5. That said, he's a very good announcer, and some of the basketball games he called with Al McGuire were pure magic.
Edit: I also agree with whoever said calling LSU sports would be a step down for him. Dude was pretty much the face of college football in terms of broadcasting at one point.
As for Hawthorne, I love the dude. Is he the best? No. Does he screw up calls? Routinely. Has he gotten more negative? Probably. But I WANT my announcer to be biased, I want him pissed when LSU plays poorly, and I want him so excited when we win a game big game (or win one in an unlikely way) that he calls out a random white boy's name that plays defense when a black offensive player gives LSU it's 2nd most undeserved victory in the history of the school.

Would Brando decline? Probably, but he is in his 60's and might be ready to chill. Would be a good gig do football and basketball if he wants and still has his radio show.
