I'm not a big fan of playing instate schools either. For 1 thing, there's really not a true rival instate anymore, after Tulane regressed. There's little to be gained-
the game is either going to be boring and one-sided, or it's going to be embarrassing if it's a dogfight.
It tends to promote division within the state... I'm an LSU fan and alum, and have little problem rooting for the other schools in their smaller conferences. I think it generally goes the same way in reverse- LSU is the bigtime STATE program, and fans of the smaller schools generally pull for the Tigers on the national level. Certain Lafayette programs excluded, I guess.
Money is money.
Granted, there might be better ticket sales and travel expenses saved by playing an instate school, vs the cupcake from elsewhere.

quote:Meh- that's irrelevant. Those programs could just as easily play other big programs, and BRING MONEY INTO THE STATE.
Keeps the money in state.

In the words of Coach O,
“frick them, that’s right!”

Just say you're frightened. It's ok to be afraid. I'm afraid of spiders and snakes and of heights. You're afraid of Louisiana schools.

We will have a pick

Gives a lot of Louisiana kids a chance to play in Tiger Satdium when they otherwise would never have that opportunity (and their parents/family and friends a chance to watch them do that). It also gives their programs an economic boost that Louisiana would otherwise be sending out of state to some other rent a win school. I love the fact that we play a LA team every year.

If you do not think all second tier teams come to Tiger Stadium pumped up, think again. Yes, probably more competitive than it should be, bit keeps the funds in state giving themthe opportunity to play in BR. In this day of transfers, we may even find a future Tiger ??

However, the in state school has everything to gain, a massive victory that they will remind us of for forever. Keep that in mind and set expectations and you'll be fine.
If they beat us they should remind us.
USM and Ole Miss used to play every year. USM won four out of five and Ole Miss has never played them since. Weak!

ou hate keeping money in state? Getting sell-out crowd revenue? Hate meeting other people from inside the state that you'd never otherwise meet because everything north of I-10 is "Yankee land" to you and you've never been north of it? Possibly developing new rivalries? You're a pussy? What is it?
This has got to be the dumbest response I've ever seen.

Junk bonds are high risk but pay high yields.
The highest yield would be to win convincingly, with no injuries, and go another week as an unbeaten, highly ranked team.
But with a win (or worse, a Troy style loss) and key player injuries, the bubble bursts and the junk part of junk bond says, “gotcha!”

We should stop being so racist and play grumbling and southern.
