I’ve heard him tell this story on the radio. It was funny as hell. He had a brother that was wild as hell too. He kept talking about his brother would walk around with a python around his neck. I was cracking up.

Who had the longer neck, Harvey Williams or Merton Hanks??

a team from the Southwest Conference complaining about paying players is the ultimate in irony

Rumor states he was walking down the hall to sign, still not completely sure about where but leaning towards Gaggie. Cheerleaders and other folks were singing the Gaggie war hymn, he found it annoying, and said frick it.

Harvey Williams was always mouthing off about something.
I remember standing outside Tiger Stadium for tickets back when we had to camp out for them. I was talking to someone in line and commented "Harvey Williams better put his money where his mouth is" and his girlfriend was standing fairly close to me.
Nothing like opening mouth and inserting foot.

The story I’ve always heard was that his school was big Aggie and everyone just expected him to go there. They were ready to celebrate and play the fight song and deck out in Aggie gear and he flipped.

I remember him saying at a post-game press conference that scoring a TD was like having sex

Loved D. Guy was one of the coolest guys.
Darryl and Harvey has some epic fist fights but Harvey was always winner. Harvey had dangerous hands.....
Matching girlfriends was funny too.

No conference was cheating like the Big 8. Even honest Tom at Nebraska.

I heard him say once he intended to commit to A$M. But at the conference there were annoying arse yell leaders cheering and saying bad crap about LSU. Harvey said he thought "F this!" and committed to LSU instead.
What I heard.

Yes, I've read that story along time ago.

Anyone who thinks these major recruits aren’t getting paid are the same dudes that think strippers don’t like them.
Especially in the 80’s and 90’s shite was wild

He decided to attend LSU University

Harvey came up with the “chuckle “ nickname for John Gruden when he played for the raiders. He missed an assignment and gruden went off on him.

he sure looked elusive.hed be badass in our offense
He was good, not great. He had speed, average power, and average elusiveness. I would guess he'd rank about 15th in LSU history.

Watching LSU vs FL from 1987. Did a little research on Harvey and a Aggie few members on a board mentioned him flipping to LSU at the last minute due to LSU and $$$$
You mean the bunch a few years earlier mentioned in an ESPN 30 for 30 on SMU referring to the Trans "A&M" the Aggies gave Eric Dickerson before 1979 signing day.
Yea,Texas A&M is the team I listen to about other squad's indescretions.

I know him well
A close mutual friend was on that team, we hung out every weekend when he blew out the knee
There was no money

Back in the 80's it was the wild wild west
If you weren't cheating you were most likely last place in your conference.
I would dare say it was most of the SEC and old Big 8 cheating and it's also when players got a lot bigger - ped's.
I won't dispute that, but I will say it was obvious LSU wasn't on as many PEDs as Nebraska in those days, if the Sugar Bowl results are any indication.
