I can remember listening to that play on the radio live. My family didn’t have cable tv back then.

Saw that played posted not long ago. Holy hell he's fast. Even for the modern game.

Sammy's 60. He's finally aged into his hairline.

It’s not his fault that he was so fast that his hair couldn’t keep up.

Not gonna lie, I avoided clicking on this thread because I was afraid he was like 70...and that was gonna make me feel terribly old. Kinda pumped that he is only 60. For some reason I had him playing in my earliest days of football fandom which was when I was like 12. And I just assumed he was playing at LSU when he was 28 years old.

I remember when he came onto the scene and a lot of people thought he was Eric Martin's younger brother who was also on the team. It wasn't long before they realized he was a little white guy from the Westbank.

My wife and I were in Jackson at the 1987 LSU/Ole Miss game and Sammy completely ran circles around the Rebs.

Funny the comment by Condon about him being the fastest white man to play at LSU Me and my buddy were blown away when we saw a shot of him on TV and he was white. That dude could fly

I remember seeing his name in stats being plastered all over the high school sports section of the time picayune. I had no idea either .

Also, why is the announcer saying “all he needs is one more block”? No he didn’t. There was not a player ahead of him. He left them all in the dust.

He was really good, those were good times watching LSU even though we didn't we any NC's except the first 1, I wasn't on the earth very long in 58 and my Mom and Dad went to Tulane, my Grandma lived a block from Tulane and I used to park cars in her yard for extra cash, especially when LSU played in NOLA! It would get so loud...the good ol days ??

I've often wondered how he would have done if he was around now.

One thing for sure, he would be just as fast. They would probably use him similarly.

He came cruising around my neighborhood in a white ford mustang convertible back in the 80's looking for Tommy Clapp's house. Exciting moment. Think he was playing for the Patriots (old unis) at the time.

Where is Sammy now? Has he been back to Tiger Stadium for any team recognitions.

This is probably the fastest white guy to ever play for LSU. Sadly, last time I saw him, he was in a wheelchair.

That's sad to hear. He's a Lee High legend.
