If you count summer league guys and 10 day guys then he's probably had a ton more in the years you've mentioned. There is only 1 legitimate NBA player from the 08/09 season, and the other two wouldn't have gotten as far as they without him.

Yeah, he basically built up Nevada, Stanford took a slight dip under him, and his LSU record speaks for itself.
Did we hire the next coming of Gary Crowton?

This is the dumbest in a long line of dumb basketball threads.
He was only good a Nevada because he had Fazekas? He fricking recruited Fazekas.
He was only good at Stanford because of the Lopez twins? He fricking recruited them. That's his job.
He had 1 legitimate NBA player and a couple of D-Leaguers his first year at LSU. The year prior, with 2 legitimate NBA players, the team completely sucked.

Now prepare the same sort of analysis of John Brady's coaching career. It will look even uglier. Brady had success when he had NBA Top 5 draft picks on his roster. He sucked when he had NBA players on the roster who got drafted later than that. Let's give Johnson time to see if he can recruit some NBA caliber players. It's not like the state of Louisiana has been spitting them out the last few years like it was during Brady's tenure.

It is amazing Brady gets 11 years here, and people don't wanna give Johnson 4

OMG, coaches with good players have good years?!?!
Roy Williams was only good when he had Paul Pierce, Kirk Hinrich, Drew Gooden, Jacque Vaughn, Raef LaFrentz, Greg Ostertag, Scot Pollard, Sean May, Rashad McCants, and Raymond Felton, Brandan Wright, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, Marvin Williams, Deon Thompson and Tyler Hansbrough. And don't get me started on Jim Boeheim and Tom Izzo!

Brady almost won 8 conference games with Jaime Lloreda as his only talent. 4 SEC wins regardless of the circumstance is questionable at best. I vote for 1 more year, but that's it if we are sub .500

Wait...so you are saying a coach does better when his players are better?
but the question is if TJ can recruit top talent
by all accounts he's doing 2 things to eliminate elite talent
1. recruiting clean
2. recruiting 4-year players
talent at LSU is a very legit issue
and yes, i understand that LA HSBB has been shitty lately, but TJ's plan still remains

He should be doing this. Are you advocating that he cheat?

2. recruiting 4-year players
I don't think Johnny O'Bryant is a 4-year player. Not a one-and-done, but probably 2 or 3 and done.
It's hard to recruit NBA level players from out of state and Louisiana hasn't produced them lately. Since Shaq, LSU has recruited two out-of-state players that have spent any considerable time in the NBA -- Ronald Dupree and Anthony Randolph.

CBB recruiting is dirty as all hell
to get a lot of the top guys you have to get dirty. it just is what it is

possibly. if he's closer to 6-8 he may be a 3-4 year guy though (like bass/baby, with the same problems)
he's definitely a step in the right direction though

as was previously stated, LSU hasn't had alot of success with NBA players from out of state. we have to build up the program if we want to get the one-and-done caliber guys. i think we're moving in that direction, albeit slowly.

To get a lot of them, yes. To get all of them, no. My hope is that LSU does not cheat to win. If you are criticizing Trent Johnson for NOT cheating, then I have nothing more to say.

I don't think that is the point. You people are really dense.
the point is that he was in control of the teams the other years, and has a record under .500
It may mean something in the long run, or it may not. But that number of W/L sure is interesting.
Do you want a coach who has 3-4 good years out of 10+ seasons? Or someone that can win and be competitive every year?

i think if he can pick up his recruiting a little bit, in 2-3 years we'll consistently field solid teams
we'll never be elite without top-notch talent that is going to be here 1-2 years (and may require dirty recruiting)
that's just the nature of CBB
