It did work and wouldve continued to work dumbass. Selling the we'll get you ready for the NFL in 3 years was the only way he could keep up with Saban. Miles was trying to win Natl titles not just go 10-2. And Saban was the man to beat and was turning in Number 1 classes every year. Try to compete with that in the same division against a guy that used to be the head coach at your school and had made alot of connections with high school coaches in your own state previously.
Actually developing kids to be NFL ready in 3 years was remarkable. He was the best in the business at this. That was why LSu has more NFL players than anyone in the entire country. Try that one on sometime brother! Number freakin 1.
The problem was he couldnt find a competent QB. The state quit producing them and 4* QB's arent going to come to LSU from out of state and hand the ball to Fournette and not be the focal point of the offense, when they can stay at home and be the man, would you?

Nick had the same problem but Alabama produced just enough to get the train ahead of LSU and win championships with the Mccarron, Croyle, Wilson types.
Miles searched under every rock to find a decent QB for his great teams. Los Angeles, Rettig, Kansas Mett, Purdue Etling, The no chest guy from indiana, etc.... What has O recruited at QB? Theyre not growing on trees on the bayou's anymore. This is going to continue to be a problem unless the state can produce a decent one at least every other year.

I have said many times, Miles did less with more than any other coach.

I don't see LSU being a three year program being a positive.

Nah. The glaring problem has been QB/offensive play style. Maaaybe 2013, but you're talking about Tharold Simon and Eric Reid as the only 3 and done guys that left after 2012 on defense.

If you can't throw the ball, you aren't winning any hardware.

Ahhh. I remember a year back in the 90’s when not a single LSU player got drafted. Not one.

The Tigers have come a long way.

What is it you are hoping to prove with this?

That schools that win national titles have kids who leave early? Because the top 6 schools on your list have won every national title dating back to 2006...

The 2013 draft Class is the reason for this. 11 people declared early for the 2013 draft. Also note that a bunch of hose guys were RS JRs not three year guys.

Of course, people will make a bigger deal out of this but under Orgeron you are averaging 5/year not including the large number of transfers.

Under Miles in 2013-2015 seasons,LSU averaged 3.75/year.

It is one outlier year in 2012 (2013 draft) that is throwing all of hear things off.

I will hand it to O, this is where I think he has Miles and Saban beat.

If he keeps on bringing in 15th ranked classes we won't have to worry about so many players leaving.

Go to the NFL and make millions or stay in college an extra year to play for the Cajun Cookie Monster in the music city bowl? Real tough decision.

No fan of O but this a trend started by Miles.

If the focus of your program will be NFL, kids will always think about their careers more than some measly college ring. Sure, it’s impressive to point out all the talent we’ve had come through, but there comes a point where you realize maybe our team culture dictates that we don’t care as much about college accolades.

There was a strategy there that was supposed to be a counter to Alabama’s success in recruiting the highest profile kids. Unfortunately, it isn’t sustainable in the long term and not only did it not lead LSU back to elite results on the field, but it has come back to haunt the program.

I concede that our lack of QB play has been a hindrance but losing all of our best seniors is more of a factor. some of our QB's have been greatly hindered by poor OL blocking and Bama has eaten our lunch in the trenches. LSU is not Bama and we NEED our seniors more. losing them puts us at a distinct disadvantage at just about every position on the team. it seems to me that we "sell" this to potential recruits and maybe we have to I don't know. all I know is that we consistently throw underclassmen against senior laden teams. hell, Mississippi state even puts teams that have much more experience than us. a senior generally is much better than a sophomore with the extra year(s) of conditioning, maturing and learning the system.

LSU football is to what Kentucky basketball has been since Cal took over....... A ton of talent in the league and very little to show for. And before the down votes start Cal only has 1 natty in 10 years. With saying that let the down votes begin!

What exactly was his argument. Players being drafted has nothing to do with the number of players declaring. Arguing that teams that don't have as many underclassmen leaving have more draft picks to the NFL seems to help make the case of the guy he was replying to.

Unless he was back-tracking on his staunch statements of the past that LSU was very talented. All the PFF ratings for the O-line and many others. That may be it since he seemed to slither away rather quickly. He probably realized what he had just done and took off to rethink things and hope no one noticed his post.

It does suck. Especially guys like Dupre who leave and go way later than they thought.

The only think I will Say is misleading is that this number includes RS JRs.

I honestly Can’t blame a guy like Will clapp who’s been here 4 years and started 2-3 for not staying for a 5th year.

Asked this question before myself. Why is it the juniors do not want to stay?

Well a lot of these guys are people like Odell, Jarvis, Fournette, Jeremy Hill.

They’ve shown all they can shown. A lot of hem had great JRbyears started for 2-3 years and are going to get drafted where they are going to get drafted.

Some are RS Juniors who already did 4 years.

Ego, Will Clapp

Some had injury issues and it is just smarter to not risk a career ended in college: Kwon Alexander

Some are from very poor families like Godchaux.

It’s hard to say. Some probably figured it would be easier to just go get drafted and maybe develop in the league. I think This is probably why guys like Hunter and Dupre left

I think that was covered in the OP, that's the way LSU sold the program, and none of this is news, btw
