I really think this is overplayed. Yes, Skip was a great motivator. But, this is major college baseball. You got to have a lot of personal motivation in order to be successful. Many of these players just seemed like they needed external motivation - they needed someone else to fire them up. That was frustrating to see.
It's like the old Lombardi quote: "You will be fired with enthusiasm, or, you will be fired, with enthusiasm."

This team would have been throttled by just about any of Skips Gorilla Ball teams.
Hot take: Skip's gorilla ball teams would be average or below at best in today's game.
Skip would have had to cut a bunch of guys with the new rules.

The fricking base running...jeez
And most won't admit it but this is a epidemic in LSU baseball since Pawl has taken over. I understand I watch more LSU ball so I see more of their little league base running mistakes...BUT I rarely see other teams make those same mistakes.

If Skip didn't call out the baserunning, then its all fake news.

Paul recruits one type of player only.
Yes and Hal Hughes and Cade Beloso are the identical examples of that. What an idiot.

Come on. You think the staff called for 10 walks or for the catcher to lose the ball allowing 2 runs to score or far a guy on 3rd to lose his awareness and get picked off or for a pitcher to get a sore arm after 2 innings.
Sometimes it’s coaching but this was just a lot of shite happening. imo

What about the timely stepping on 2nd base or the timely moving up to 2nd during a rundown or the timely catch of a high outside fastball keeping the runner at 1st?

Yeah, he's right. Other than hitting, pitching, an baserunning, we had a good team. We couldn't do any of those pbases of the game worth a shite. The teams in Omaha did those and we didnt...pretty much all season long. I can't remember the last season where we ran ourselves out of an inning, held runners the could have easily scored, or

I’ve thought this for a while. I realize Skip was a great motivator & not everyone has those gifts. IMO, this is one of the major differences between Skip & PM. Think about this year....how many times did the count go 3-2....and the player was walked. I think part of the reason was pressure. I’m not saying this happened all the time. Fontenot did a great job under pressure Sunday but, lots of times, when a pitch was needed, it didn’t happen. Same goes with hitting....in years past there always seemed to be someone who got the key hit. This year, not as much. For whatever reason LSU at times, LSU doesn’t seem to have mental strength that past teams had
What I remember was timely hitting especially in good seasons and superior base and outfield play. Skip was a force!
Paul beat TEXAS! (Head coach Augie Garrido (13th season) That outside of MIAMI 1996 is easily the biggest win in LSU Baseball. IMO bigger than the STANFORD 2000 comeback.

The size, strength and caliber of average player under Skip was better.
You ever look at Paul's teams and think that none of the guys on the field outside of maybe Cabrera are even built like baseball players. You got kids that either look like linebackers or kids that look like water boys. Granted I understand the smaller speedy guys workout in the outfield but man Skip use to roll out some grown arse men on the field..

what is this even supposed to mean?
I realize my response is not timely but I don't hang out here every day.
What I meant, and I think it was clear enough, was the skip chose to touch on two subjects, pitching and hitting.
I think that is telling, although its broad, because we have a serious issue with coaching in both of those areas and those two areas cover the majority of the game.
I didn't hear the interview so I'm relying on the OP to have posted an accurate depiction of the question asked. If he was asked that general of a question and he went to those 2 subjects, I find it telling that he sees an issue there like I and most other fans do.
I know the game so insulting me (you didn't do that) or alleging that I don't know that game says more about people determined to defend CPM at all costs than it does about me being objective, in my opinion, about what i see and what other people say.
so in summary, I think Skip knows it's time to make some changes and I agree with him.

Agreed. Skip was a great recruiter and judge of talent. He was the best in game coach I have ever seen at the college level.

Or the intelligent baserunning
I recall some bone head base running by skip teams as well. Just didn’t matter as much in the gorilla ball era.

Skip's teams had to "hold the rope." Failure in the moment was not an option. As long as there was one strike left in the game it was not over. He brought the whole "process" mindset to college baseball with Ken Ravizza.
