Great quote by Skip; “What hurt LSU....”
quote:

What hurt LSU was not getting the timely hit. Or the timely pitch." #LSU legend Skip Bertman on @1045espn

I’ve thought this for a while. I realize Skip was a great motivator & not everyone has those gifts. IMO, this is one of the major differences between Skip & PM. Think about this year....how many times did the count go 3-2....and the player was walked. I think part of the reason was pressure. I’m not saying this happened all the time. Fontenot did a great job under pressure Sunday but, lots of times, when a pitch was needed, it didn’t happen.
Same goes with hitting....in years past there always seemed to be someone who got the key hit. This year, not as much.
For whatever reason LSU at times, LSU doesn’t seem to have mental strength that past teams had.

He's being polite but his subject matter is very telling.

It’s execution....they failed to properly and consistently execute on the mound, bases and at the plate.

This team would have been throttled by just about any of Skips Gorilla Ball teams. The size, strength and caliber of average player under Skip was better. Times were different, but Paul recruits one type of player only. Basically, his teams are built with weak to average hitting shortstops spread across the field.

what is this even supposed to mean? Skip is on the radio all the time. The subject matter was questions asked to him. It's not very "telling" of anything except that the radio show hosts are doing their job and asking pretty benign and basic questions you'd expect to be asked.

What it means, is that even though Skip constantly says things contrary to what they believe they will make up their own version of it. Even the biggest of idiots know better than to question Skip, so they just say he doesn't really mean what he is saying to try to justify their stupidity.

That is consistent with what he said after every LSU loss when he was coaching. He was preaching timely hitting all the time back ten.

Along with making up statistics about putting the lead of man on base. LOL

A hit batsman to lead off an inning always leads to a run.

This one has stuck with me to this day. And wouldn't you know, 7 out of 10 times he was correct 100% of the time.

This baseball team was due for 1 to 2 absolutely boneheaded plays a game (whether it was baserunning, fielding, pitching). Luckily they had the talent to beat those boneheaded decisions most of the time. The problem with it was the teams that win it don’t make stupid middle school baseball decisions.

All it takes is 1 bad play per game and you can go from a championship caliber team to 2&Q.

At this level you shouldn’t be making those type of plays.

The fact of the matter is, we got swept by an inferior team at home to go to Omaha.

Numerous baserunning mistakes and pisspoor coaching decisions are what ultimately led to the loses and both are the fault of the coaching staff.

The 3 run homer given up by Vietmeier is squarely on Dunn’s shitty pitch calling. To throw the guy another fastball after he fouled off 5 in a row, instead of an off speed pitch is inexcusable.

And Mainieri’s retarded decision to not walk Mendoza or bring in another pitcher to face him is also inexcusable.

The 3rd base coach who didn’t notice the excessive lead by DiGiacomo and didn’t correct him.

A fricking high school coach could have called a better game than these idiots.
