It seems like he’s figuring some stuff out

That was truly an unearthly home run, given the exit velocity of 109 mi/hr (160 ft/sec) and the angle of trajectory of 27°. It literally defies gravity-- the vertical velocity V(o)sin 27°= 72.58 ft/sec. The height the baseball SHOULD HAVE REACHED with the info given can be expressed like this: H = V(o)•(y)^2/2g = (72.58)^2/ 2 x 32.17 = 81.86 ft -- over 5 ft less than the 87 feet the ball reached!
