Practicing against one of the best defensive fronts all offseason proved to be very beneficial

Solid B

Room for improvement in run & pass blocking. The played surprisingly well, very nice surprise.

Mubenga is not good. Can’t even line up properly. He’s almost a yard off the ball giving the defender lined up on him a running start to our backfield and putting himself on skates.

I was scared shirtless when he had to play tackle. He was buns on those snaps...

Looks to be the same as last year. No push vs the run at the point of attack at any point during the game, and played above average in pass protection. Actually, I would give them an upgrade on pass protection.

What I DID like to see, what the play calling finally reflect what they can and can't do. Counters, outside runs, screens, those clearly worked, and would have worked last year.

B. Was not a huge fan of Sloans calls first half but he did a great job compensating for the OL’s weaknesses with creative play design in the second half.

The did better than I thought they would given the hype regarding Clemson’s D line

Still concerned with run blocking. A lot of Durham’s yards came after contact at the line or in the backfield.

But, if that’s really the best D line on our schedule, we should feel better about how the O line will progress.

That makes two of us. Seeing him lineup there had me terrified.

I agree playcalling was better. I think they’re slightly worse at pass protection and slightly better at run blocking.

Most yards were that or from a cutback. You would see 4 or 5 Clemson defenders tackling Durham and the rest of our line almost out of frame. Improve run blocking and they will be fine.

Also when you whiff on a block and your HB gets destroyed you should go pick him up and don’t just walk away like nothing happened Weston Davis.

The La Tech game will be needed to solidify starting five

We almost exclusively saw the same 5 all night. Did Echols or Curne ever play? Other than Adams getting banged up for a few plays it was

Adams
Mubenga
Moore
Thompson
Davis

Echols played quite a few snaps in the second Q

The DE made him invisible on that 2nd play. Just blew by him. That was so damn bad.

Wrong. It was hit and miss. But on the sneaks and short yardage TD. Moore bulldozed people. He gets push off the snap and got a PFF grade that reflects that.

PFF grades aren’t everything, but they were different than I expected. Thompsons run game score was actually pretty low.

Mubenga’s run score was as well, but he actually had an awesome pass pro score. If you remember last season, he really struggled in pass protection and we had Nuss getting pressure up the middle regularly after Dellinger went down because of that. That’s a significant improvement on his part vs a great pass rush.

He and Thompson both need to get those run blocking scores up, but there’s some good to build on.

No surprise- Moore and Adams had by far the best scores on the OL. Great job by those two.

We could use a power back in the run game in situations as well. A road grading OL is very complimented by a power runner.

They did fine, considering they were playing the #4 team in the nation and didn't back down... Chester played at LT because it was obvious BK felt veteran leadership was needed. If it had been La. Tech, Curne would have played the LT spot. Rookies are being brought up to speed, and they will be needed.
