This thread is about recruiting. Nothing is said about results on the field. BTW how is O's results on the field so far?
He has proven he can win 9 games in the regular season and 6-2 in SEC play. But that he is capable major let downs (Troy and MSU from last year and UF 2016). That is all that is proven. It is up to him, his staff and team to prove more.

So, you think championships are made of 15th ranked classes? You’re gonna love Da Coach O.
Not typically unless you are Clemson and have a DeShaun Watson at the QB. One top 15 class surrounded by better ones can contribute. Consistently having top 15 classes won't do it.

Ed O sucks a bag of a-holes.
What a fricking idiotic thing to say and thank goodness you represent a small portion of the fanbase. There are plenty of on field things you can criticize. There's no need for this kind of garbage.

Fans like you say this crap about a Bama obsession and it is just plain stupid. Who the frick should LSU fans be aiming at if it isn't the very fricking team we simply have to surpass to get where we want to be? That team is Alabama and being that team is not only in our conference but also in our division why the frick shouldn't LSU fans point to beating them on and off the field? What is odd is fans such as yourself who seem to think it is your place to tell other fans to NOT point to Bama as a goal. You and your ilk are the strange ones.

Some of you guys like to give o credit for landing Brennan and Narcisse (both were verbal commits under Miles)
Great post, and Stingley was also a Miles verbal that reopened his recruitment when O was hired to make sure he was still comfortable under the new regime.
Interesting that this has barely been mentioned through all of this.
It isn’t like O swooped in and ripped this kid from Saban’s grasp. As is clear from his video, this kid is a Tiger through and through and was pretty much always coming here. He didn’t even visit Alabama likely because he’s an LSU fan that hates that school as much as most of us do.
Thrilled he’s a Tiger, going to be a great one

IMO, O deserves a ton of credit for keeping that class together as the interim coach. I get that Miles was the coach and all, but to sell the recruits on the program when the future was in doubt is damn impressive, especially considering the quality of players that had other opportunities.

Don’t disagree at all.
I like the guys on our roster, and O gets credit for all of them whether Miles laid the groundwork or not.
I only mentioned that Stingley committed under Miles because he has been all LSU for a long time and some on this board have been acting like this was some surprise the past couple of days.
The 19 class is pretty much a best case scenario for O. Great LA talent including huge positions of need.
It will be more interesting in down LA years. For LSU coaches to be successful long term they have to be able to compensate nationally when LA is down. That requires long term planning and strategy, something that O still needs to prove is a strong suit imo

Not good enough.

That is always the bench mark for a successful season imo. Unless....

Cannot have it. For 11 straight seasons we were an absolute lock OOC. O has to get that back on track or it raises what he has to do in SEC play to compensate.
10 regular season wins is always the bar for a good season. 9-3 is likely a 15-20 type ranking and won’t even get us in NY6 bowls much less contention for Atlanta or the CFP.

Well said and I really hope this new direction with offensive coaching staff and analysts shows that he has a solid long term plan that also gives us the opportunity to win this year. People learn at different rates. I'm cautiously optimistic that he's gotten this thing straightened out, but like most want to see it on the field before I buy in completely.

Again, to borrow the old Chris Rock line - "That's what he's supposed to do".
Recruiting is what he's best known for. Most coaches have a specialty, offensive guru or defensive background, etc. O has neither of those, he's been a D-line coach all his life.
But he does have a rep for recruiting and it's why he got the Ole Miss job and it is his perceived strength.
And I've always said if you can't at least land a Top 15 recruiting class at LSU you are probably borderline incompetent given all of the recruiting advantages here.
So to circle back, he's doing what he's supposed to do and I guess that's not always the case these days....so give him a cookie.

I don't necessarily disagree with any of that, but I don't see the issue with telling someone "good job" and acknowledging when they do something well. I believe in being fair with criticsm and praise where it's earned.

It's silly and stubborn to not give credit when someone does a good job using that excuse. Should we throw a party and parade? Of course not. But what's the harm in saying, "great job" when he gets the #1 recruit?
