Don’t see him sniffing the lineup if he makes it past fall cuts.
The only time he every underperformed in an LSU uniform was when he tore his hamstring. And even then he was one of the best options we had at the plate. What a shite take to say he can't sniff this lineup.

Not that Gio is great, but this could create some crazy depth. Not sure he is even a guaranteed starter next season.

Morgan isn’t moving anywhere.
Our best lineup may no longer be with him at 1B but with him in the OF. Yes, he's our best 1B, but there may not be such a big dropoff anymore and he'd be our best OF too most likely. And it'll be where he plays after college so putting him there isn't crazy.

hes the country’s best 1B, he’s staying there. I can see crews moving to Dh before Morgan gets moved anywhere

You need to relax. That's like saying Crews is our best Catcher. Just because Morgan is an athlete doesn't mean you lock him in at a single position he can play well. You make the lineup so that you get the best combination of bats and fielding together. AGAIN, that may not be with him at 1B.

I wouldn't know where to begin. A healthy Gio is a really good OF and he's got experience. We know he can hit SEC pitching. But then where do you put Pearson? Morgan if Barry plays 1B? I honestly don't think we've been so deep in so many places in years. Sucks we don't have a catcher that can hit and play defense right now. But we could be in for a pleasant surprise there like we were with Sciv.

Some of those guys can probably play other positions. You put your best 8 guys out there. Period. This offensive lineup is going to be ridiculous!

That's my point though. You put your best 9 out there (DH too. Not everyone can do that well). But where does that put everyone? Dugas can play IF. Morgan can play OF. Did Berry transfer only to hit? I doubt it. I know 1 position for certain and that's Crews in RF.

He's smart enough to not want to play there.

JC players Merrifield and Jobert didn't come to LSU to sit the bench either. Jobert can play 1B and he can rake, Merrifield can play INF and OF and he can hit! I like giving coach Johnson tough but good decisions to make.

Now bring in some pitching arms through the portal for the SEC weekend!!!

We won’t have much room for more arms unless we tell a few guys to get the hell out.

Neither have proven they can hit SEC pitching. Pump the breaks on these guys until we see them in action

I think a good proxy for what we can reasonably expect from someone like McManus is to look at what Scotty Dubrule did for Mississippi State. Obviously a different kind of hitter. McManus has more power.

But the drop in production from going up a level in competition is telling.

I'm looking at baseballreference.com and did Gio really only have 3 walks to 29 strikeouts this past season?

That needs to improve

He wasn't the only one with that kind of split. By far the worst though.

I truly think it was a result of PM's approach though. Swing early and often. If you struggle, swing more.
