No, 14 stayed home and 47 had the edge. Fournette hit the hole like he was supposed to, unfortunately 2 of our blockers whiffed.

Jeter might be the worst run blocker on the team

Yeah it was a really interesting design to say the least. It was essentially a trap, but the inside TE (84, Moreau) blocked the man in front of him and the outside TE (81, Jeter) apparently needed to pick up the LB while both the FB and Clapp who pulled were supposed to kick out their guys. It may have been unnecessarily complicated in hindsight.

ETA: I wonder if Moreau was supposed to block down too , because engaging his man and expecting Jeter to get to the LB seems asinine.

That would make more sense, unless Clapp was supposed to meet the mlb in the hole. I'm not sure. There was definitely some miscommunication somewhere, which isn't surprising. Disappointing because this could have been a big gain and possibly even a TD right before half.

Both Jeter and Moreau were whiffing all game long. How can you be that big and be that soft? There were some serious oles by those two.

Just when I was getting over the loss I see this gif . Come on Jeter you are out there to do one thing and that is block. I get so mad that we have pass catching TE that ride the bench because we got to have blocking TE. I can't remember the last time that we throw the ball to Desean Smith that did not end in a completion, but out of all the TE he is the one that can't get on the field.

Honestly Moreau deserves a pass. I don't think he was expecting to be blocked FROM BEHIND by his own man!

And what in the actual frick was Jeter doing? Dude just put his head down and hoped.

We'd be much better off without ever having a TE on the field. They can't block and we don't throw to them. Just go 3 wide every play and let Fournette and JD work.

that les for u. it was perfect time for play action pass to tight end

you're getting downvoted, but that absolutely WAS the perfect time for play action. Wisky was expecting run, which is our tendency.

Perfect time to go against tendency, run play action, with Harris rolling out and dragging the TE across the middle. Harris has the option to run or throw. Would've been the easiest first down in history.

But no, we do exactly what the defense expected, run a counter (which takes a long time to develop) and it got blown up.

10 men in the box. OK Let's run it.
If they execute better, LF should score a 60 yard TD. Noone back there to stop him.

Sad.... Miles is right, the scheme works when executing, but why do you choose to run a scheme when it is completely obvious to everyone watching that the players can't execute?

If you can't coach them to execute, don't rum that damn system. Run something where the defense will screw up too and give your team a chance for the play to be successful.

that gif if a perfect example of why Les thinks the offense is fine, as long as everyone executes.

You're already taking the risk going for it there, no need to double up. If it would have been stuffed because we were just outmanned, fine, but even decent execution is a big play there.

If you want to break tendencies, go with a naked bootleg or something, but the left side of the defense did a good job of staying home.

On another note, Weathersby was dominated on the 3rd and 1 play right before.

I think you missed what actually happened. Yes, Moreau was blocking, but he was blocking the wrong man. Jeter did the best he could and almost salvaged the play by knocking Moreau into the guy he was supposed to block.

I like Moreau (I'm acquaintances with his dad), but it looks like that was his fault.

Wisky's LB and safety didn't stay home at all - they both headed straight toward our right side even before the handoff. If we ran play action there, I'd be fine with rolling Harris left with a TE drag, or even a naked bootleg would be fine with me (by the way, the naked bootleg is one of my favorite plays which almost always works, especically with a QB with legs). Would've been an easy first down, and probably a big gainer.

See, that's what coaches are supposed to do. Think about down, distance, and game situation, and think about what the defense is expecting. And then do the opposite.
