I know you guys question alot of his play calling as do I sometimes. However, he built that offense you saw last year with Dennis Dixon. He has yet to have a quarterback learn his system in and out and yet we still put up huge numbers.
Just wait and see when Jefferson and Sheppard grow with this system. Imagine this system with expirienced QB's, WR's, RB's, O-line and TE's......Just wait till it hits its potential with the perfect blend of power and speed. I cant wait!

Crowton leaving was the best thing for Dixon and his development though. I like Crowton but his heart wasn't at Oregon. He was looking to leave after the first year here. He also pretty much wrote off Dixon after his midseason struggles his Junior year which killed his confidence.

Chip Kelly came in and simplifized the offense here (Since Dixon is not a bright one to be honest) and built the whole offense around Dixon which is why he blew up his senior year after a below average junior year.

I agree with you though, you need a dual-threat QB which is why I think Russell Sheppard will tear it up at LSU.

Sounds like a plan to me. But in the meantime the guy has to work with what he has and that means calling plays that the qb can run comfortably and well and not get too cute.
I've seen it for years where coaches will have something working and try to get fancy on a play when all they need do is to call something basic that's working to achieve the goal. Crowton got fancy when he didn't need to.

yea i know he needs to work with what he has and he does get fancy but he kind of has to with Lee because he cant make a pass up the middle bc thats almost a sure pick. Bama was loading the box and he had to make some passes to keep the Bama defense honest. It sucks but 8 in the box is tough on any o-line and running back. Lee is destroying us right now

Uh, have you checked the rushing stats? LSU gained more yards on the ground than any team Bama has played. Tigers dominated the LOS, especially with Scott up the middle.
I like GC but the guy is sometimes TOO imaginative. Just play the basics when that's all you need.

he simplified the offense? that offense they were running isnt complex, what Kelly did was tell Dixon to run more and you see what that got him. I never got the impression that Dixon wasn't bright enough, I got the impression that Dixon wasn't accurate enough for Corwton

With Crowton, you are either gonna have the best offense ever, or a finnesse peice of crap. I know we ran on Bama pretty good, but we stil threw it a little too much. I get the impression that Crowton likes the West Coast, throw-it-a -lot type of offense, while Miles likes the Big Ten run, run, run, type of offense.

The only reason that Crowton might have called for a pass play 34 times was to use the pass to open up the run, in which case it should be short throws to a TE and a bunch of WR screens.

Jarret Lee seems to be the polar opposite of a Crowton QB. Am I wrong or missing something here?

The playcalling was just fine. He just had a QB who played by far his worst game, an that's saying a lot.

And that's really another thing. Crowton's play choices are seriously limited due to the fact that his QB is beyond green and probably a head case (especially now).

I didn't think I'd say it, but Les and Crowton outcoached Saban and if they had even a competent, average QB, LSU would have won by at least 2 TD's.

Crowton and his sytem only work well with a developed multi-threat QB. His system so far is a fail with a young, less talented QB like Lee. He doesn't know how to dumb down his system to fit the QB he has, that's my only complaint. Last year with Flynn Crowton was awesome, but he had a lot more to work with. Message to Crowton, JLee is not Flynn.

I don't really have a complaint about the overall play calling from Crowton. I just think that in a couple of situations he tried to call things that were not to JL's strongpoints and instead should have called something that was working in order to keep a drive alive instead of trying to outsmart Bama. That way the drive stays alive, we possibly score points and instills confidence in JL and the team as a whole.

If we were 8-1 he would still be the WIZARD.

I really don't think dumming down the O in the SEC is an option...Crowton is working with one hand tied behind his back...He is still the wizard

The most successful offenses aren't necessarily the most complicated ones. In fact, running 10 plays to perfection greatly outweighs running 100 like crap.

Agree, but will the fan base be patient enough to allow the mentioned qbs or the present one grow into the position? If you read some of this crap it is apparent some do not understand this learning curve.

i love what he did last year. vs the ohio state univ, he scored two, or three tds that jimbo would have never scored. however, if run for about 5 yards a carry (i know we were close to that vs bamma) against 8 man fronts, you shouldn't throw it four times much less have four picks. overtime, run for five-ish on first down, then go four wrs????? run it vs no 1 in the country. throw it (for practice) vs tulane.
