Feet first is the better way to slide on a steal. The point of the slide is to make sure you stop.

Too often sliding head first causes you to slide past the bag and get tagged out on the other side. To counteract that, a head-first slider has to adjust his speed before the slide, which slows him down a split second.

I actually like feet first. Just as fast and less dangerous. I had a friend who was paralyzed going in head first, and it's always been something I hate to see

True and true. Both of these are additional reasons why sliding feet-first is better.

I was watching a documentary once (I think it was Ken Burns' Baseball) where they said Tim Raines started sliding head first only because he had vials of cocaine in his pocket and didn't want to break them.
