it is a lot easier to mark down.
5.2 takes 3 key strokes, 5 2/3 takes 5
everyone understands it as the same thing.
also when you are hand writing it it is easy to write two numbers with a point than 3 numbers and a slash. Also many times on score cards you have limited room to put stats so .1 is easier than 1/3.

It actually doesn't. .1 and .2 looks really neat and clean in a scorebook. 1/3 and 2/3 is trashy.
