Todd was far and away a better hitter. He actually tried to place it where he wanted when he wasn't trying to take the pitcher's head off. From what I heard from a friend of his, he only "tried" to hit it out when he was sitting on a change and saw it like a beachball. Furniss was great too but he's a distance behind Walker. There were so many great ones it's hard to pick the top 5.

Walker and it's not close.

I knew both Walker and Furniss in school.

Furniss was one of the quietist most unassuming people you will ever meet.

Walker was the best flag football qb you will ever see.

i was too young to see walker play, and furniss was my favorite player

i guess i give the edge to furniss seeing as he's the best power hitter in SEC history...from what i hear though, walker couldnt get out at times

abd furniss definitely used the gold easton every time i saw him play

i couldnt find his stats from '96, but he was pretty awesome in '97 and '98

8 games
28 AB
11 hits
.392 BA
2 HR
5 RBI
12 runs
10 BB

his power #'s went a down, but overall production was still there

Walker- better hitter by far
Furniss- absurd power
Dean- Needs to do it again this season

I remember when teams would always walk Furniss to pitch McClure who would then hit a grand slam it was awesome.

Dean has 1 great season. He needs to do it again to even be mentioned with these guys

+1. Hopefully next year we can say he belongs in that discussion.

Walker. He was an unbelievable college player. I saw him hit a home run once that I still don't think has landed. He could do anything at the plate. It was absurd.

Walker was obviously the best overall.

Just wondering if anyone was there for the Furniss HR at Zephyr Field when he practically hit it to the Saints practice facility?

He has the HR record and he was a great power hitter. However, he is far from the best power hitter in SEC history. You can argue he had the greatest career, but you can't compare talent by using career numbers in college baseball. That would be like saying Torris Bright was a better 3 point shooter than Chris Jackson.

FURNISS! Also my favorite of the 3. He hit 3 HRs in the first game i ever attended at the Box. Instantly hooked on LSU.

Back in '91, the Kansas City Royals (insert laugh) had a tryout at Louisiana Tech. I went and tried out. We all fielded, threw, and ran times for the scouts. After we came into the dugout, 2 guys with Bossier Phillies American Legion uniforms came back out onto the field. One to pitch and one went to the plate. A guy in the dugout said the one at the plate is the one they're interested in. We watched him hit and were all astonished. We all thought we were pretty good at baseball until we saw him. Whoever's familiar with Tech's field at all, Mr. Walker hit 2 completely over the railroad tracks down the right field line, and hit several more out that made us all want to go back to our vehicles. Todd's build was about the same as mine, but he could put the damn ball out about 100 feet further than I could. I hit a fair share of home runs through the years, but I had to tip my hat to him. We could all tell he was on another level than us. He won the MVP of that tryout. The next year, I was watching an LSU game on TV and said "Hey, that's that guy!" He was my favorite player for LSU because he's the only one I can say that I've been on the same field with. That dude could hit.

I was there. He hit it over the swimming pool in right field. Probably about 425 feet. One of my best memories about Walker was the 93 CWS, the semi-final game vs Long Beach State. Batting in the bottom of the 9th, and tied. LBS had its ace closer, Gabe Gonzalez on the mound. They had just walked the previous Tiger to set up a force play and Walker was at the plate. He was 3-4 on the day, and somehow they thought it was best to pitch to him. He hit a hot shot at the 2nd baseman, which bounced over his head after hitting him (ruled a hit)and we scored the winning run. We then faced Wichita State in the final.
