John Wooden had a booster named Sam Gilbert that was always around the program and players. The UCLA players would refer to him as Papa Sam. Wooden turned a blind eye to Gilbert being around the program and paying players.

The NCAA eventually handed UCLA probation, vacated a Final Four appearance and forced UCLA to disassociate with Gilbert. The NCAA ruling came down after Wooden retired, but Gilbert was around the program for the entirety of Wooden's NCs. Gilbert was also under federal investigation for money laundering and racketeering and was indicted postmortem.

John Wooden's pyramid of success was missing one key piece - Sam Gilbert cheating for him.

I've brought this up before and asked a poster to educate himself. In typical fashion, he did a 15 second Google search, just enough to read Wooden wasn't coach when Gilbert was banished. Didn't care at all that he was there the entire time during Wooden's tenure.
