I'm amazed at how Maryland missed 2 bowl games with this guy.

What? Both of those represent explosiveness.

...and the 40 doesn't represent speed in a game where speed is paramount?

Please show me where i said anything about the 40.

But since you mentioned it, id say explosiveness is more important than out right speed. Most nfl players arent running 40 yards at a time.

Yep.

Fournette smelling like a rose after Cook ran a 4.5. Cook was supposed to be the lightning fast one.

I think his time correlates well to what I saw on the field during his career.

4.45 or so wouldn't have shocked me, but a combine 4.5 is damn fast regardless of size.

Most important thing for Leonard is that his medical comes back ok.

Fournette with the Panthers would wreck shite!

So those predictions in the high 4.3s/low 4.4s were crazy

I'm not sure it's physically possible to run a 4.3 at 6' 240 pounds. Too much mass and not long enough legs

Not sure what I was expecting him to run but that wasn't it.

Go back and read the thing I originally responded to. Howyouluhdat said

" Running the forty is the most overrated combine workout they do. It in no way represents how a player is on the field during a game."

to which I replied...

Um... vertical leap? The Wonderlic Test? Broad jump?

this is where you came in to the conversation.

I know. I was merely saying the vertical leap and broad jump arent overrated or meaningless.

Agreed. Bad for the rest of the NFC West, our Saints, but good spot for LF. Great dual-threat with Newton that would be tough to defend and hold in check for 4 qtrs. Add their WR/TE talent, and this team would be hard to contain. CAR obviously had a down year, but their roster is loaded with talent - on both sides of the ball...add LF, look out.

And how many times will any of these backs run a 40 yard dash in games?

Just posting the times my man.

Still a chance to see guys run side by side. For the most part faster guys run faster times. Obviously there is more to consider, like speed out of breaks, 10 yards splits, full stride speed, etc..

What yardage do you think is a more accurate assessment? No matter what you choose how many time will they run that exact sprint in a game? Should we just not have guys run at all?
