What sucks is he missed 3 games for this. Did he deserve that? Some would say so... but he could have played... he could have had senior day.
Awww, poor baby. Screw him. He failed a class (a D when a C is required is failing). If he was my kid, and under 18, I'd have pulled his arse out of baseball.
This whole thing worked out perfectly. Missing the rest of the season is probably more than he deserved, but going through the hell of the last week is probably condign punishment.
Grow up, kid! And get off my lawn!

He's still an idiot for not being responsible and passing his classes with all that is handed to LSU student athletes, on a silver platter nonetheless.
THis. Only 6 hours and you screw up on that....don't call these guys student/athletes. The NCAA academic standards are really low.

He isn't your kid, and he isn't under 18. If he was my kid, I'd do what was in his best interest and actually become informed before making a decision.
Who knows what happened in that class.

From my understanding of the article, he took more than 6 hours which saved his arse.

No surprise that LSU saw it his way.
Baseball is a money maker. Good to see the ole Purple and (live) Gold has it's priorities in order.

He won the appeal, but he's still an idiot. Doing the bare minimum was enough in this case.
I don't feel the least bit sorry for him.

You mean the SEC and NCAA. LSU has a very strict compliance department

And would still be a money maker without him...
Congrats, you're king of the rantards

What I meant is he is a Star figure, on the cover of the baseball program. If this appeal were to come from the an average Joe Student, it would likely have not gone the same. If you don't make the grade, you don't make the grade. Its not rocket science.
Good for Foster, the system saw it his way. He wins. Hope the young man learns a lesson.

quote:Huh? It's an NCAA rule. Has nothing to do with "Joe Student". There wasn't really an "appeal" at all. No grades were changed.

you should probably take two steps away from the keyboard.

Sorry Ell, didn't have the inside scoop. Guess I should have none there would be some misinformation on these boards. Thanks for clearing that up.

It was posted here a page or two back. No inside information. PM's explanation of the ruling.

quote:It's not like Foster's grade was not changed. Although his grade in this particular class was not good enough for his major, it is still considered passing by the University's standards which apparently is acceptable for the NCAA. I'm sure he'll have to retake the class if he plans on getting his degree

Got it.
Have to say though. The first sentence is troubling.
"We found out", like they just read the rule book and had no idea it ever existed.
"There's this very obscure NCAA rule", no rule is obscure, a rule is a rule.
So I didn't have to read much into the lengthy explanation before I knew there would be some crafty meandering of the intent of the rules to go Foster's way.

Yes LSU really screwed up here by not knowing the rule. Sure Foster is a lazy arse who is doing the bare minimum to get by his senior year. Pretty stupid on his part considering he has very little chance at making a living playing baseball.
However, he DID do enough, and LSU should have known better.

It's actually very black and white. I dont see how you come up with "crafty meandering".
