What Lester means is that 25 is old for AA when attributing his stats to any sort of future MLB success.
I don't think many people see him as being on an MLB track and never did. But I do think there are plenty of people who didn't expect him to play well at any professional level of baseball either.

Huh? How do you think that is irrelevant.
Because the average age in AA is over 24 years old, 25 is not "old as hell". It's essentially average. This isnt difficult

"Old as hell" for that league would be older than basically average.

I remember. Not surprising he’s trying to downplay this.
Reid had the higher floor as a college player, Slaughter had the higher ceiling as a pro player.
This happens a lot in college baseball. You have the 6'3 kid who can run like a track star and hit the ball a mile, but has a lot of swing and miss in his profile and is raw defensively. Then you have the smaller, slower kid who just gets it done but doesn't project as a pro player. The question of "who's better?" depends on what you're looking for.

But Reid wasn't better than Slaughter even in college. Reid was a singles hitter who hit .267 over his career here with no speed. He had like 2 home runs in over 400 AB.
Slaughter hit near the same average (.255 career) Reid did but at least had some power (11 HR in 333 AB). In fact Slaughter slugged .432 his last year here, improving a decent bit from his freshman year here. Reid was a .337 career slugger here and his best season was his freshman one.

But Reid was a professional hitter and Slaughter looked like he struggled to do basic math. Has nothing to do with baseball but slaughter always looked confused and that never instilled any confidence in him.
I do need to say that I don’t know Jake and am not insinuating that he isnt smart, just that his face had a resting confused look.

Wont disagree there, but he was still better than Reid. Nothing against Reid, but he was basically a UNO type player at LSU.
Would have been interesting to see Slaughter at LSU for 1 more season if things would have continued to improve. Reid wasn't even as good later on in his career at the plate as he was his first year here

Not browbeating anyone brether. Simply giving perspective that he is old for the league & should be hitting well as a 25yr old 4-5th year minor leaguer

I think Jake had some growing up to do while in college. We always knew the potential was there. Dude has some really good power. Glad to see him succeeding in baseball. If you’re 25, and still playing baseball, you’re pretty much in the clear. The guys who don’t make it, usually find out in 2-3 years tops.

No it’s not “brether” but I’d never expect you to admit you’re wrong. 25.30 is the average age of AA players, so if you consider average to be “old” then sure thing man

Just saying man.

He was the 2nd oldest player in the Tennessee smokies lineup last night. Other than some random 27yr old. Brether

He’s 25 and it’s AA. Is there anything you don’t think you’re an expert on even though you’re clueless about?
He’ll actually be 26 in October. I for sure wouldn’t call him old but his baseball clock is definitely ticking.

Has he learned how to slide?

So out of 9 people? That doesn’t make him “old” for AA when, again, he’s the average age of a AA baseball player. Just take your L and move on down the road you clueless, annoying know it all douche

So.....he’s 25? Like I said? Not sure why the “actually” was necessary there.
Also, nice alter Lester. You’re mentally ill bud, no need to create random accounts so you can agree with your own stupid takes

Dude cost us a national championship. We tie it there, we win it no doubt, and Lange coasts to the Natty the next night.
I'll never forgive him.

It actually is older than he'd ideally like to be in AA. I have several friends who went through the minors and most of them said 27 years old was their cutoff. People forget they make shite money in the minor leagues. Unless they were drafted high and received big signing bonuses, they're broke!
With that being said... He's tearing it up! Maybe he'll make after all.
