Did we win something?

I don't understand this response at all. OP did not say or even insinuate that they did. The question is simply about their surge which is obviously been on display.

You made me wonder

Doesn’t feel like Paul Manieri just puts out talented players every year and waits for them to just get hit and if that happens at the end of the year so be it?

TD needs to decipher what's happening, is this how coach Manieri operates, he recruits well but can't coach them up, has to wait on the players to work it out?

So much overreaction.

How much of it was an overreaction, LSU baseball looked in decline, looked like no one was coaching them up. Certainly appeared that way, so what changed?

The players are responsible

While I certainly don’t disagree with this statement; it also has to be one of the most frustrating mantras of the Rant.

It seems no matter the sport (but more amplified in baseball) that when a team is doing bad it is the coach’s fault; but when the team starts playing well, then it is because of the players, as if they are now playing better in spite of coaches. It is just an asinine thought. Like the cliche goes, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle and is a combination of coaches doing their job of developing and players finally executing what they’ve been taught.

This is especially true in baseball. Baseball, unlike most of the other major sports, does not involve near as much scheme or x’s and o’s. Sure there are some in game decisions to be made such as when to run, bunt, change pitchers, etc. And baseball, with the integration of analytics has more game planning to it now than before. But overall, baseball is still more about developing players (hitting and pitching) and then players executing what they have been taught. In basketball or football, if you have a weakness on offense or defense, a good coach can scheme around it to make the team more effective and give a better chance to win. It’s not that simple in baseball. It is hard to hide weaknesses there. And when a team is hit with injuries like this one has, the holes become even more obvious; so it takes time for the players who are forced to step up to develop and execute at a faster rate than coaches anticipated them having to.

You’re a strange poster.

Funny how you take a stab at tRant for knowing all, when you start numerous threads about Joe Burrow not being beat this year, followed by a bunch of outrageous opinions like you “know all”

I see you trying to creep on this baseball bandwagon. It’s like clock work this time of year. Never fails.

Really? I’ve never seen more ignorant posts in my life.

We were just in the National Championship less than a year ago.
We’ve had injuries, young players adapting and questions at pitching early in the year. Still reeled off 30+ wins

In no way was LSU baseball in decline. And Paul Mainieri is the guy who’s been coaching.

And I’m not even wasting my time on the second statement. You’re an idiot.

LSU is the only team in the conference that had to replace its entire weekend rotation this year.

I’m aware of that. I think the OP has failed to see that.
But these threads always pop up this time of year. It’s post season attraction.

It appears that their self-confidence has matured to the point that once the conference tournament and playoffs start, the historical mindset of previous LSU baseball accomplishments takes over. There is a separation between the regular-season mindset and the playoff-season mindset at LSU. Sort of like a fresh start. This team grabbed it an is running with it.

I'm encouraged by the SECT run, win or lose today, but this team still struggles on the road, and that's where we will he next weekend.

Clearly Hoover is just a home series.

I think Manieri and the players as a whole get the credit.

Depending on what regional we are placed in, it may not be much of a home-field advantage to a nascent baseball contender to have us coming into a small stadium and bringing some fans.

We doubled our Road/Neutral Site wins in Hoover, with two coming against Top 10 teams (one more please?). I'll take it.

Several posters have pointed out the injuries and youth, so it's understandable that it would have taken some time to work in replacements and for the team to gel.

I'm no baseball expert and admit I don't follow closely until near the end of seasons, but doesn't this seem to happen every year? If so, here's a theory.

Maybe Mainieri is very patient and willing to push various buttons to see what happens well into a season, then has enough experience to know when and how to start pushing the right ones, based on what he's learned earlier.

This surge is absolutely due to the coaching and motivation from PM and he should be fired for it!
