Football Season Tickets Question

Hello,
I am new to this forum and haven't found much information on this topic.
Can anyone explain to me what I need to do in order to get good football season tickets. Do I donate to the tradition fund or the Tiger Athletic Fund?
I called the offices last week, but got a student worker who was not very informative.
I'm in a rush because I want to make the donation before 2017 is over so I can claim in for 2017 tax purposes. Any guidance would be appreciated.

When calling LSU never speak to a student. Ask for a supervisor. The students could care less and you are only a pain in the arse to them.

TAF donations will be deductible going forward. Tradition fund donations will not after 2017. Since you don't have tickets you can't contribute to the tradition fund so don't worry about the timing. Call TAF tomorrow and ask them what you need to do. If you want to contribute to TAF in 2017 that's fine and you will be able to deduct that donation for your 2017 return. I'm no CPA but that's the way I understand it. I did pay my tradition fee in 2017 for the 2018 season at my CPA's suggestion. I hope this helps.

Starting around the first of August every year go to the ticket exchange board on this site. There are always plenty of season tickets for sale. You can pretty much pick and choose your tickets. Some for face value only

There is no Tiger Athletic Fund. There is a Tiger Athletic Foundation which puts you on a waiting list to get good tickets. You can get crummy nose bleed tickets from them with a first donation, not sure how much.
Once you have your good tickets that you want, you no longer have to pay the TAF but you must pay the LSU Tradition fund a donation (which has been 80% tax deductible but I hear Congress has done away with that) to be given the privilege of buying your tickets at the Ticket Office. So you have to pay twice for Season Tickets at about the same time you pay your income tax. It sucks.

Before every game, walk outside the stadium and you will see people holding tickets in the air. I just saved you hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Other option, TD ticket exchange.

Would seem to me that TAF would give people the option of donating to the Tradition fund (non-deductible)or an increased amount to the TAF General Fund (deductible). Both could insure that your seats were reserved.
Would have to be worded carefully due to the new tax act but might be able to make it work, at least for a year or two. Maybe a donation to a special "academic fund" would waive your Tradition Fund donation requirement. Put our best tax lawyers on it!

Unless you plan on making a substantial contribution to the TAF or the LSU Tradition Fund, you will not have access to "good tickets" through LSU. Any tickets that come available are likely to be in the top rows of the upper decks. You will have more success buying tickets on the secondary market in August. Because of the poor home schedule, many lower bowl tickets were selling for 50 cents on the dollar. This year is likely to be different with Alabama coming to TS, but you should be able to find good seats below cost ( Face value + donation).

Football tickets are picked by potential purchasers by computer and the timing that people are allowed to pick is based on a system of points called TAF points. basically, the more you have donated, the more TAF points you will have and get to pick earlier. Honestly, unless you donate one hell of a lot of money, you will not likely get tickets that most would consider "good".
I would recommend you join TAF at the $100 level, get on the wait list so you can figure out the system and then try to get good tickets next year. Meantime, you can find some tickets that someone has to sell pretty easily if you will give them their cost (face value plus donation).

You're exactly right LSU Fontenot .
Plus by buying tickets for every game, you don't have to sit next to the same folks every game, and we all know that is a crap shoot. And you will also be able to see the game from different vantage points.
And if you do this, then take the money you saved from the TAF fees, you can splurge and either get Club seat or go to an away game, or bowl. I would say a play off game, but according to many folks on tRant, that won't happen until we get a QB or a coach.
Hope this helps. Besides, buying season tix is overrated, you are not going to go to every game, especially on a day with weather like this.

Because of the mandatory donations, season tickets run you quite a bit more than face value. I have 4 but often have more family in town than that. Only paid face value for one game this year and not more than half for all the other games.
Just something to think about. I keep mine more for posterity than anything else.

I donated to TAF this past year, and will be doing so again next year. Then hopefully in 19 I'll try to get tickets.

You get more TAF points before the deadline for 2018 tickets by donating both in 2017 and then again in 2018.
If you did 5k this week and 5k in January, you might have enough priority points for lower bowl season tickets for 2018.

Are you just wanting to sit anywhere? You no longer need to spend big bucks. Just sign up for the waiting list when available. The entire list has had the chance to purchase tickets the last 2 seasons. Something LSU doesn't want people go know.
If you want to slowly improve your seating you donate 100 per year through TAF to get 3 points.
