The problem I have is our LBs trying to cover Florida's running backs on passes routes. As you know, this is our biggest weakness on defense. I don't care what the freshman's stats were against Alabama. I'm sure the kids barely took any snaps at all last week in practice. Seven days from his debut, he will be better I'm sure. If you folow recruiting, you will soon learn that Florida has much better athletes on offense than does WV. This is not even debateable.

In one half of football, Driskel was 2 of 6 for 16 yards. He won't deliver the ball to UF's playmakers anywhere close to how Geno Smith did .

In that 2nd half, Florida had 6 offensive series.

The Driskel led offense had 4 three and outs, 5 punts, 1 turnover, and 61 total yards in those 6 offensive series

I like our chances

Interestingly, this is exactly how UF beat us in 2003...with a true freshman QB.

Do I believe it will happen? No. But never underestimate speed and talent, and UF has both.

I agree with most of the posters on this topic so far. We should be able to control the game against Florida and win rather easily.

HOWEVER, once apon a time (2003 specifically) LSU was sky high and playing some of their best football in years, we were playing Florida at home against a true freshman who was on a 3 game losing streak. Everyone knew we had a better team and felt like we would win rather easily. We had a powerful defense and a offense that most on here would agree much more effecient if not more talented then the offense we have today.

Long story short we slept walked through the game and turned the ball over way too much as our offense was totally shut down. Defense didn't play that bad but we did nothing on offense that day. If it weren't for a Skyler Green punt return we would have been shut out completly.

My point being we can't take any team lighlty this year no matter who we are playing. They are still in the SEC and have talent on both sides of the ball. As history has shown, just beacuse he's a true freshman on the road, if our offense doesn't show up he doesn't have to be a world beater to do enough to beat us on Saturday.

I like where this team is at right now and I think Miles will have this team ready and in the right frame of mind. We just need to continue playing with the work men's mentality and show up ready to pound somebody.

I started the thread basically stating that Florida is no pushover. I know we should win this game, but Florida is no joke and has every capable resource on their team to make this a good game. If we don't beat Florida by 20 plus points, I won't be disapponited like some on here expecting us to win by more than three touchdowns. Take away our defensive TD, and well beat Kentucky by 21 points. Our offense played like crap against Kentucky. We dominated team out of conference, but seems like the our offense is not as crisp against SEC teams.

surely you are the one joking. florida is one good football TEAM. if that freshman burns us on a long pass early and chavis switches to his west virginia defense that freshman will eat us alive.

What are you basing that opinion on?

my opinion is based on his high school career, the fact that he was #1 qb recruit in the country and my observation of his "christening under fire" last week. yes, his stats were bad but the bama DLine were completely outmanning the florida OLine. will ours do that? also, can the kid run? if so, that is our defensive weakness and i'm surprized that hasn't been exploited to it's fullest yet. it's a chavis trademark. i'm sticking with my opinion that florida is capable of beating us and if our team adopts the attitude that they aren't BASED ON ONE HALF OF A FOOTBALL GAME, they may very well pull it off. it has happened before.

they may have played hard, but it was only a matter of time til Bama's defense would take over, Florida has nothing outside Rainey and Demps, you shut them down which Bama did and they are done!

I'm not seeing how they could do better in TS than they could do at home. Plus with a frosh at QB I think our D will have him rattled. Florida always has good athletes and will not lay down but they may get run over. Bama put it on them so I feel we can as well.

frick excuses. This team should have rolled Kentucky even if it started at 8 a.m. They struggled to run the ball PERIOD. There is ZERO excuse.

They're playing a true freshman QB.
Don't fool yourself. He WILL improve. He was thrown to the wolves against Bama. Now he knows he's the guy.

He may well be the surprise of the game, and if Chavis plays it conservative, he will bend-don't-break them all the way to the end-zone.

Plus you cannot overlook Florida's speed. LSU -10 is shaping up to the be sucker bet of the week.

Yea we are full of execuses on here. The early start time, the wind was a problem, UK playing hard after a big loss. No big hits in this game is my measuring stick for playing hard and we didn't. The loudest part of the game was to boo our QB.

didn't you hear that many LSU fans have already counted victories over florida, auburn and tennessee. some have even counted victories in every game until the NC. he takes a nine or ten step drop and doesn't know the offense well enough to know where the rec's will be...so he holds the ball, or takes off running with it. I'm sure he will improve some from the other night just off of the experience....but if they stay with that same style/philosophy, LSU will hurt that young guy....not exactly the place to be getting your first start as a true freshman. LSU will shut down the run, and blitz often and create a nightmare for this kid. there is a reason that LSU is favored by 14 over Florida.....I expect it won't even be that close....I'm think if Florida is lucky they score 10...and depending on how many turnovers florida makes.....LSU will score anywhere from 28-38.

This game isn't a gimme......even with the QB being an unproven freshman.

The QB doesn't have to make long pass plays to beat us. With Demps, Rainey, and Debose, the QB make those little dump passes and screens and they have the ability to make things happen. If we tackle as poorly as we did against WVU, there will be trouble. We REALLY need to work on open field tackling this week.

We absolutely have to get great production from our O-Line and D-Line. D-Line pressure on the QB and stuffing the running game will hep alot. If we force them to move to an actual passing game and can cover the short dump passes, we'll be in good shape on D. The fact that our Defense has had good conditioning has been a real help late in games this year. They're having no problem playing hard all 4 QTRs, which many teams have difficulty doing until the end of the season.

Our Offense HAS to start run blocking better. The run blocking against Kentucky was horrible. It seems like they're not really getting after it in the first half because they're relying on the fact that the other team will start to tire by the 4th qtr and they'll be able to blow them off of the ball then. That's not going to get it against the better SEC defenses. They're going to be physical and play the whole game, so the O-Line is really going to have to step up. I don't think they've been tested so far and the Florida game will be a real one.

Special teams will really come into play the next 4 games, as well.
