Yes, this is our seventh appearance in the title game, which is hard to believe, but it is also the FIRST time we have appeared in Atlanta in an even-numbered year.

Why have we never been there before in even years? Because we have never beaten Auburn and Florida on the road in the same year (until 2022) and we almost always lose to Bama at home.

We broke long-standing historical trends this year that go beyond just the fact that we are in the title game. This is even more reason to be hugely optimistic about this coach and staff (if you needed any more).

Even Saban couldn’t get the trifecta in 2002. (He went 1/3)

This is the main reason we never made it to Atlanta in an even year. During our golden age, those two were peaking as well and Alabama was an after thought. It was virtually impossible to beat both on the road. But when we had them at home and Alabama on the road, we had easier paths.

I think the West team had a long streak of wearing white in the SECCG, because we were there in the odd years and we chose white, and the East team would choose their color when we weren't there.

If we are being honest, it probably helps that this is the first time in a while both Florida and Auburn were pretty weak in the same season. But the bigger impediment has been beating Alabama at home. Simply put, for the last 14 years or so beating Alabama has been a requirement for winning the west. LSU not being able to beat them at home has been the stumbling block.

2019 was probably the most "fun" season since 2003. But this year has been fun in a manner not seen in 20 years.

Going back to 2001 through 2007, we made the SECC in odd years because Bama was down and we got a strong Auburn at home in odd years.

The situation now is Auburn is way down, and Bama a little down.

Also, like this year every single season we have appeared in the SECCG we have beaten both Bama and Auburn those years.

Why is it hard to believe this is our 7th appearance in the SEC Championship game?? We've been a conference powerhouse for quite some time now.

I'm old and I remember watching Alabama and Florida in it every year. I remember the pure joy of just making it by beating Auburn in the delayed final game of the season in 2001. I remember the absolute disbelief watching the Tigers take a 10 point deficit against Tennessee in the 2001 title game, and flip it to two plus quarters of pure dominance.

Just more about my perspective as an old guy who has been following the Tigers since the mid to late 70s.

Schedule used to be more difficult with powerhouses AUB and FLA on the road. And yes, the losing to alabama at home.

True. But we came VERY close in ‘02. Had we not blown a Hail Mary against arky we would’ve gone that year.

FWIW this should have been much higher.

2 in Saban's 5 years

2 in Les' first 3 years.

Only 1 in the next 11 years (2008-2018)

I seriously thought at the beginning of this season that this season was going to be TAMU levels of fricked. Good to know there is a God and that Fisher is getting what he deserves.

Yes, very true. I remember that heartbreaking loss very well, and remember thinking it was football karma payback for the Bluegrass Miracle. However, that season precisely proves my point, as we were blown out on the road at Auburn and at home against Alabama.

Agree. I penciled in 2023 as the year we made a run because it was an odd year Since 2000 even years have not been nearly as good as the odd years in football.
