makes me wonder what these girls did on their travel teams before. NFW she recruited them just to be pinch runners. coaches want value. they want girls who can do multiple things well.
you have prime spots for pitchers and catchers as they are always needed. The pitchers who do get to bat in college are beast hitters. you do not see it often tho. Lauren Haegar at UF was a great pitcher and hitter.
if you are a infielder or outfielder you had best be able to field, hit and run(unless you are a big girl at 1st). I doubt running is all they can do. do they suck at hitting and fielding? just got beat out? waste of space if that is all they are there for.
I know and have had girls who are the best pitcher, best hitter and best fielder and best baserunner on the same team. tons of value.
rarely do you get a pitcher who can do all that. of course they will never be used in that fashion in college. might hit but you can forget a coach putting a stud pitcher out to field or run.

Thank Leftwich for that, I’m sure the new coach is trying to flip the roster from the Leftwich disaster

By the way, EX LSU K K Madry, another former bench player is now the starting CF for LIBERTY. Looks like she made the right move and found her way into a Super Regional. Since she went to Liberty maybe she is one of those "God is good " types who can play a little softball,
In Townsend's defense (and several other past and present players) several players like KK Madry and Chaffin have moved on and have played well. And it should be noted that it is peculiar that every single Power 5 softball program brought new players in that received more than the 1 or 2 at bats a year our's receive to prove their worth and every other program has those that do. The overwhelming majority of them were not as talented as the recruits LSU secures.
At some point that has to be noted and you have to start to question development and not talent. Florida with Shumaker & Comia and others; Tennessee with Dodge & Morgan and others; Clemson with Cintron & Collins and others; Florida St groomed half the lineup from first day on campus; Oregon full of freshmen and sophs; Texas Tech with Toney and Lindemuth; and the list goes on with every school. LSU has a development problem... Essentially every top end school has newbies with more than 30/40 at bats and defensive innings. Some crashed and burned but a lot of them shined. Looks like no freshmen other than pitcher/catcher played one defensive inning and each had 1 or 2 at bats. We have no choice but to go to the portal if we don't develop them.

Or they are no good which is more likeky..let’s see where all these superstars go. KK plays for a mid major, why didn’t another SEC pick her up?A top flight Big 12 or top ACC school…Townsend couldn’t play over Lassiter, Laneaux or Redoutey, she is a slapper, their were essentially 4 already in the lineup…

KK may play for a "Mid Major", but one that beat The # 1 seeded team and now headed to a Super Regional! And where are we?

It’s still a mid major any way you spin it..you think Berzon going to a mid major? If Bergeron, Edwards, Lassiter or Heavener left you think they going to mid majors? The fact is the freshman class minus JH was abysmal

This is the dumbest comment all day. Tons of coaches would drool at the chance to get paid half a million each year at LSU!! We are a top tier Sports University with rabid fan support. Beth hasn't made the WCWS in 8 years she's a good coach but not great. Her coaching and teams performances have declined.

How long did KIP go without a WS appearance at UCLA? Deifel may go this yr however she been at Arkansas 10 yrs without going to 1, she would have been ran off by now at LSU

Yep! AND that just beat the #1 seed! performing against the same top competition. But KK has played against top competition (including eliminating the team that swept LSU) and performed well all year.

Yall talking about the wrong things. LSU softball season is over. How’s Beth’s travel team looking while all the other coaches are out recruiting and evaluating transfers.

It's disappointing to open up a browser and see an AP story with a headline that reads, "WCWS is Shaping Up to Be an SEC Showcase with 9 of 16 Teams Remaining," knowing that LSU is not one of nine remaining teams.
As an LSU fan, I absolutely want to see all of our teams be successful. Many others on here have already pointed out that this program is in rinse and repeat mode. Frankly, I have not been a huge supporter of the program from the standpoint that I rarely attend games, but as a season ticket holder for other sports, I know some of what I pay, like you all, is being funneled to non-revenue generating sports.
The product on the field is not where it needs to be based on what the staff is being paid. What is the breaking point for Scott Woodward when it comes to LSU Softball to remove Beth Torina from her post?

I left Louisiana for a job and ended up in Nebraska. Before the regional, Husker fans were sure they were in one of the toughest regionals since LSU would win it all. I haven't followed LSU softball this year, so I can't comment on whether or not the coach should be replaced.

had a call with another coach last night per his sources she is going nowhere as we all expected. at least for this year. supposedly there will be a push to recruit more in state girls. let's see what happens.

Just curious who are the in state kids making an impact on any super regional team?

Kind of a knee jerk reaction. Just because SLU beat us with mostly louisiana girls, doesn't mean that's the problem. Nebraska run ruled them twice.
I think she needs to do a better job evaluating talent, improving each player day by day, and creating better team chemistry.
Getting a Pitching Coach or a real 3rd base coach would be a great first step.

In state kids aren’t the problem. Recruiting the right players and coaching them up is the problem.
