Ads on the field would be a travesty.
It is a mathematical certainty - this will happen. Already in place, paid for, etc.
This is the beginning of the end.
NBA and MLB have already given in with jersey patches and massive logos on their fields/courts. The Houston Astros have a MASSIVE "Oxy" logo between the dugouts and the baselines...it is distracting.
It was only a matter of time before colleges succumbed to the money.

Only time I think I will ever be in the NCAA's corner and hope they deny LSU's request. I fricking hate the idea of them putting jersey patches on and/or naming rights to Tiger Stadium. I'm gonna frickin lose it.

Other stadiums are getting sponsors, I don't see why LSU wouldn't do it.

I just hope it looks good. Big time soccer teams have huge sponsorship ads on their uniforms and it’s not terrible.
They make major revenue off their kit deals with major sportswear companies like Nike, Adidas, and Puma. I think Barcelona is paid nearly €130M annually to wear Nike kits
Then they also sell ad spaces on their jerseys.

Why? Uniforms aren’t sacred anymore…the Tigers just wear whatever color wherever these days in the name of selling more merch, no matter if it looks good or not or screws with their established brand. What’s the big deal about selling patches on jerseys and ads on the field?

At the same time, LSU hopes the NCAA will allow schools to sell patches on their jerseys, something Harris said also generates “multiple millions of dollars a year.” LSU has identified a partner, which officials declined to name, if the rule changes.
Wow fgt LSU making me pull for the NCAA for once

Can someone fill me in on how the football program is now loosing money? Is it tied to the NIL payments to players?
Football team has and never will lose money. If the AD is losing money it because of non revenue sports

Sounds like creative services needs to create some revenue

how are we 8 million in the hole? Doesn't the athletic budget go over like 200 million a year?
LSU spends a ton of money on retarded stuff they think is cool. Like that annoying woman they hired to scream over the PA in Tiger Stadium. I would love to see an audit of the athletics department. Bet it looks like the balance sheet from an HBCU.

Maybe they can review concession prices! Oh sh*t it’s already $11 for a can of beer!

Just wait until a court orders schools that they must let each athlete wear gear of their choice regarding cleats, etc. programs will look like NASCAR when they get big equipment deals cut.

Really? The ad looks like the team name. In fact, the team is the little patch where the sponsorship logo used to be.
You and other fans have been conditioned to look past the ad at this point. But that doesn't mean it looks "good".

Banking on our sponsors being larger/more lucrative because of the brand? Ohio State and Texas will just have bigger sponsors. So tired of this arms race. Where does it end..

This is for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. There's a new 20.5 million dollar expense being added to the budget this year with zero revenue tied to that expense. I believe there's also an increase in the scholarship limits for some sports, which increases expenses. What did you think they would do?

I agree but soccer also shows way fewer ads during games. It's annoying to be watching a game that's got 2 and a half hours of commercials and now you'll have ads on the jerseys, helmets, field, etc. on top of that. It's like a football game breaks up the commercials now and not the other way around.
This is a really fair point. I'd take ads on jerseys and the field if we had no commercials for the entire game

It's amazing that this keeps getting overlooked. It kicked in July 1. Quite frankly, I'm surprised we're only $8M in the hole with a new $20.5M compensation expense that just hit the budget.

Off the top of my head, Penn State, Kentucky, and Tennessee have all done naming rights deals on their stadiums recently. It’s definitely not a question of if, but when, all stadiums in college have naming rights deals.
