The current model is destroyed because the government decided to interject itself into it.

the NCAA can not be trusted to run this form of college sports or the next version
The ncaa is an abject failure and still infinitely more competent on this issue than the government is.

Why does the transfer rule only apply to athletes? Anyone on any other scholarship can transfer anytime they wish, why should it be different for athletic scholarships?

I think this sucks. We don’t need politics in college sports. Somebody just needs to reel the dumbass NCAA in. At least get control of the transfer portal.
What do the Commissioners want?

Because significantly more resources are allocated towards athletes than any other scholarship.
And because any other scholarship needs more than a 2.5 gpa and 18 act to get into these places in the first place.

I thought the NCAA was a private entity. How can they replace that with a government body? With caps on coach's salaries? Government reach also needs to be reigned in.

Athletics brings in more money than any other program. Not picking a fight, it just seems weird to hold one group hostage.

No. Football and men’s basketball bring in more money than any other program. Every other sport loses money.

Putting the same restrictions on them as every other highly compensated employee is not holding any one hostage.

athletes can transfer and continue going to school just like those student do.
they just can’t play sports (just like those other students don’t play sports).

quote:There would be 18 year olds at P4 schools who haven’t even put on a college uniform yet that would come in making more from NIL than their head coach who’s won conference or national titles.
The bill also takes aim at coaches’ salaries as those figures rise. A coach’s maximum annual salary would have a cap of, “10 times the full cost of attendance at such institution,” according to the text.

Correct.
They just want all of the benefits and protections of being employees with none of the consequences or restrictions.

Highly compensated???
Which one of those words don’t you understand?

I dunno why we have college sports at all, they don't do that in Europe and they still enjoy sports. prodigies go to pro acadamies and eventually play for liverpool or real Madrid. works fine. no pretense of education.
if our only teams were baton rouge instead of LSU, that's fine.

Extremely vague..scary what this administration could screw up

I am 100% against the federal government asserting any governance over college athletics. Even if the NCAA is doing a bad job, it’s not the govt’s business. Keep politics and govt out of sports.

the previous administration is who spearheaded the current NCAA mess.
and the next one will also frick it up.
so will the one after that.
the only thing either “side” is good at is fricking up.
