You know this is complete idiotic. Hawthorne was by FAR the most versatile of all in my lifetime. John Ferguson was the best for football.

Jim Hawthorne is the original NegaTiger. I don't care how "versatile" he was. He made me want to jump off of a high building head first. Remember when Jack Hunt caught the Bluegrass Miracle?? I'm not hating, just honest.

Bull shite.
When did you start listening to him? 2000? What about the 40 years before?
How the frick do you even come here with that bullshite about Jack Hunt? That was a mistake in his ultimate excitement and not being negative dumbass.
You’re a nega-tiger.

I loved listening to John Ferguson call an LSU football game. My voice of the Tigers while growing up.

I don't remember Ferguson. He stopped in '87 and I was 6. Hawthorne was my "Voice" and he was good. My first "Holy Cow" moment from him was the Todd Kitchen OPI penalty on the last play of the Vandy game in '90. I think Jim was good, but the better LSU got through the years, the more negative he became. Now this follows the trend of what old white men do, so I get it.

Hey, sorry gotta run, there are some kids on my lawn ruining my grass.

John Ferguson actually did the Saints radio play-by-play for a season back in 1990.

Ferguson was who I listened to growing up as a young Tigah.

NO ONE can compare to ole John in LSU history. Jim Hawthorne was HORRIBLE.

Moreau was really great also. I don't think he would have done well nationally, but was perfect as color analyst for the Tigers.

I can't seem to remember if Doug did the games with Ferguson for a while or not. If so, that is your all time great LSU announcing team.

Hawthorne: "Faulk up the middle for 3 yards." 30 seconds pass: "2nd and EIGHT for LSU."

You could always add a yard to an opponents gain, and subtract a yard from an LSU gain with this idiot calling the game."

Another beauty: "Nix pass over the middle INTERCEPTED by Twillie." 2-3 seconds later: "naw!!! he dropped it!!!"

One last problem with that DUNCE. If LSU ever made a catch or interception on his call, I would IMMEDIATELY start the basketball ref 10 second count (for crossing half court). I figured if I can get about 4-5 of those arm motions in before that Rhodes Scholar screamed "no he DROPPED IT!!!!! There was a 50/50 shot that the great play he just described was accurate.

The only reason people loved him was because they grew up with his arse, and to be fair, he had a GREAT and instantly recognizable voice. You knew the LSU game was on as soon as you heard him.

Doubtful. John was the best at Football. Jim was the best overall. Basketball was exceptional and by a mile he called the bosses moments in LSU sports.

Loved sitting in the press box in the 1960's with John, Sid and Jim (who would soon pass away).

John is the best football voice we had ever.

I also liked going to the press conferences after the football game, thanks to Jimmy on that one.
