You do realize that before the portal players could still transfer right...

I remember when guys stuck around long enough for us to learn their fn numbers. I used to know damn near every player by their numbers alone. Now they haul arse if they sit the bench for a year. Should not be able to portal as many times they want.

They should get 1 freebie and that’s it. Unless there’s extenuating circumstances like coaches leaving. Other than that, they should have to honor their commitment.

This is one the big things no one talks about. In these kids minds, they have now made it, have some money in their pocket and feeling all powerful. In many, many cases, the hunger and desire will shrink significantly for these 18 year old kids. Hell, it does for a lot of older individuals, so it is only worse as a kid.

And when is competition infused this mini doctrine? Of course there are players that perform better than their recruiting grades. However, and more importantly, there is daily competition and commitment to improvement.

It is not in any coaches interest to ignore commitment to improvement and consistency. That’s what everyone is looking for. Guys that don’t do it in practice won’t play in games. The chrystal ball is not what puts and keeps players on the bench. It’s usually effort or lack thereof.

My passion for college football is decreasing. I’ll still watch it, but I’m not investing too much into it.

years ago, i followed recruiting a decent amount. had a few subscriptions, got excited as shite about the bayou bash etc. still was way more excited about the season\games, but i paid a lot of attention to recruiting back then.

the last 15+ years, i rarely browse the recruiting board, and just funneled my excitement to the season\games.

now, i feel like i click on here more looking for either the good or bad news of XXX player leaving or staying and the seasons just don't seem as interesting with player turnover. i still watch, I'm just not as invested as i once way.

You can get me to understand. You can even get me to sympathize. But I’m not going to watch some 4 star depth piece go in the portal and be happy about it.

It’s a helter skelter runaway mercenary shite show that is ruining traditional college football.

If we opt out and transfer our time to something else, college football ceases to exist. It doesn’t exist without us going to games and watching it on tv:

I get that a player could be stuck somewhere and wants to get an opportunity. However, it seems there could be a few rules put in place to slow it down. Perhaps only allowing transfer after a player has been at a school for so many years, or you must have reached your junior year or something of that nature (2 years of eligibility remaining). Then have an exception that allows transfer if a head coach leaves. Just some thoughts.

I think coaches, should be required to sign contracts just like players, in my industry we have non-competes that keep us from moving from company to company. The same thing should happen in college football. Also all of your points are completely wrong.

You forgot that it fails to teach these kids discipline, loyalty, work ethic, or patience…

Bottom line:

Player mobility and restrictions used to be to stringent, now they are 100% opposite and to lax. The portal needs some guard rails.

The end.

Generally the adults in the room have a different set of rules. It’s the same reason I can drink a coke or chew gum in front of my students and they can’t.

We can equate this to a boss / subordinate situation. These are adults, no matter how immature they may be. We have to treat them like adults and have their actions met with consequences. Currently there really aren't any.

With the portal, players can seek out better opportunities, not just for playing time, but also for NIL deals, better facilities, and coaches who actually invest in their success.

Unless you’re Walker Howard.

As of a few days ago, 2700 players had entered the portal. That’s 25% of all college players. Last year, 30% of players in the portal went unsigned. So that means, if the percentages hold, that almost 1000 players who enter will never play D1 football again. Now tell me again why it’s leveled the playing field and is such a good thing?

That's an excellent pernt. Add to that: they're education is no longer free and may not continue.

You’ve nailed it. Guys like Quinn Ewers and Quinshon Judkins were just being held down by mean old coach. They HAD to transfer.

*Ewers comment based on the rumor he’s getting a huge NIL deal to transfer to a Big 10 school instead of entering the draft.

Coaches do sign contracts, and when they breach that contract they have to pay off the remainder, just like the school does when they breach. That is the buyout you always hear about.
