Good post, but you know that most of the geeks on here don't have the attention spans to read long "Iliad and Odyssey" type posts like this..........

What hurts is people who believe false rumors and then post about them.

quote:
and must stop...False rumors often show up on recruiting sites, usually by posers, I mean, posters, who want to appear to be important. Many times they will pick a topic that has a 50-50 chance of panning out and go with it. if it turns out true, they say, look at me, I am important and you should always listen to me in the future....If it does not turn out to be true, they either don't mention it and hope everyone forgets, or they come in after the fact and post some bull about how the coach changed his mind, or not enough money was involved, or the coach wanted a bigger title for his name and backed out....yada, yada, yada....only problem, like in this case with Chavis and the false rumor started here by belowpar, is that below par yada yada'd through the best part..."the truth."
The truth here is that a couple of weeks ago Chavis' name was mentioned as a possible candidate by georgia people along with the names of Bud Foster and Grantham from the Cowboys. But Chavis told georgia he was not interested and to take his name off their list. georgia, apparently unbeknownst to below par, offered the job to another. Look at Grantham and those others mentioned in espn article I pasted below which serves to confirm what I already knew, but apparently, below par didn't. At this point Chavis has not been a part of the equation at all and never has been. It was only in the last day that they made another run at Chavis TO NO AVAIL, so how could below par have told you Chavis was ALREADY A DONE DEAL TO GEORGIA? He couldn't and be telling you something that was accurate. In fact, Chavis had already once turned them down just prior to below par announcing his alleged insider info. Things could always change and they could run out of candidates and money could become irresistable to him....but thus far it has not happened that way and to suggest otherwise is a falsehood to the nth degree. As of now below par's rumor is false, since he claims this is already a done deal.below par took a rumor and ran with it...damn the truthfulness, full speed ahead. The performance here is above par at best.
What is disappointing, but not unexpected is all the sheep who followed that false voice. I have seen posts asking the all mighty poser, I mean, poster, his information on whether Miles will keep Crowton....and I have seen his patented non committal response which can land in either direction when the time comes and the real information comes out....stick a finger down my throat...as if he would really know that...I mean, really...c'mon man. I have seen the sheep begin posting up and down this board...asking questions of Chavis like: what does Chavis know about LSU that we don't,....as if the false rumor were already true and Chavis to georgia was a done deal. Such things hurt LSU...by suggesting that there is something wrong at LSU and that is why Chavis would leave so soon. Thanks guys. It is pitiful alone to see that, but what is more alarming and disturbing, is the adverse affect such disinformation has on recruiting. Already one such recruit from out of state, known to me, has expressed that Chavis was leaving for georgia. When asked where he got that from, he promptly said, "tigerdroppings." Great, he has turned his interest to elsewhere because of this false rumor. Feel good about yourself yet, below part???? I do not know if such posers, I mean, posters, ah, hell, I mean, posers, are fans from other states posing as Tiger fans and trying to ruin our recruiting classes every year, or if they are so-called fans who are clueless about such adverse affect they might have on recruiting and don't care, as they want to feel important. It does not matter the motive...the bottom line is it hurts LSU, and your believing like sheep and regurgitating on here mindlessly, hurts LSU. I am one fan who is not going to put up with it anymore. I am outing the poser. This so-called inside info is false. There will be no spinning after it comes out false. The other members here who believe in it are fostering a false rumor that damages LSU in the long run. Stop it.
Quit being sheep and quit believing everything you read on these fan sites like it is gospel....including my post here. Don't believe it until the story comes out...I don't mean some Herbstreit type story liner....I mean a validated story from news reporters. Who cares if you know Chavis is staying at LSU...but write a post that says he is leaving and everyone finds that to be news and the gospel. C'mon man!...or should I say, C'mon Sheep!
Let's stop hurting LSU. let's start being real fans. Think...use your brains. Ask yourself.....The only people at LSU who would know this is Chavis or MIles....is below par really Coach Chavis? Is he really Coach Miles? Would either man be talking about this to anyone else? If it were true, why has it not been publicly released or leaked??? So, the only guy who can talk about this secret information, just happens to be below par on Tiger DRoppings, of all places???? Need I say more. Kind of sounds silly, when one puts it that way, doesn't it.
By the way, I have no problem with you waiting to see how it unfolds before I ask you to believe this is some great inside info in my post. And also, by the way, If below par really had inside info on the georgia DC job, he would have posted my above information already.
And if that is not good enough for you all...read this...
Grantham somebody to watch at Georgia
December, 23, 2009 Dec 231:30PM ETComment Email Print Share By Chris LowGeorgia coach Mark Richt will almost certainly make one more run at Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart after the bowl season.
Smart, one of the hottest coaching commodities in the country right now, has already told his alma mater “no thanks” a couple of different times.
But look for Richt and the Bulldogs to make one more play.
If Smart elects to stay put, which he likely will, a guy to watch in Georgia’s search for a new defensive coordinator is Todd Grantham, who’s currently the defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys.
Grantham was the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns for three years before being fired following the 2008 season. A former offensive lineman at Virginia Tech, Grantham got his start in coaching under Frank Beamer as a graduate assistant.
Richt has already talked to several people about the job. In addition to Smart, he’s had both Vic Koenning and Bud Foster on his radar. Koenning ended up going to Illinois to be Ron Zook’s defensive coordinator, and Foster will stay at Virginia Tech, where he will get a raise.
Most recently, Richt has been doing his homework on Grantham, who has an impressive list of coaches he’s worked under. After working under Beamer for six years at Virginia Tech, he worked under Nick Saban for three years at Michigan State. He moved to the NFL in 1999 under Jim Mora with the Indianapolis Colts and has been there ever since.
Grantham has been a 3-4 guy throughout his NFL career and also worked under Dom Capers with the Houston Texans before getting the Browns' defensive coordinator job.Tags:Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Kirby Smart, Mark Richt, Todd Grantham

Miles says no formal word from Georgia regarding Chavis
By James Varney, The Times-Picayune
December 29, 2009, 3:56PM
LSU head coach Les Miles acknowledged Monday there is speculation Georgia might be interested in luring Tigers defensive coordinator John Chavis to Athens, but Miles said nothing has flashed across formal channels and he declined to speak further about the matter until after the Capital One Bowl game Jan. 1 against Penn State.
"We have not discussed Georgia in any way," Miles said, when asked if the topic has come up between him and Chavis, whom Miles hired this season after Chavis was let go by Tennessee.
"Certainly there's word out that Georgia has interest; I have no heard from Georgia," Miles added. "I don't really want to talk about that. It's a distraction to the game."
Chavis is slated to be among the coordinators who speak with reporters Wednesday.
Georgia head coach Mark Richt fired Bulldogs defensive coordinator Willie Martinez and two defensive assistants on Dec. 2.

Could you please find, cut, and paste the post by belowpar where he stated that chavis to Georgia was a "ALREADY A DONE DEAL TO GEORGIA", as you have alleged?
No, but he did say there IS A VERY GOOD CHANCE of that happening.
It has been mentioned on other pay sites that this rumor started by belowpar has already hurt recruiting. I know many people on this site..cough...are friends with belowpar. But in all honesty he should stop posting rumors such as these. IMHO.

Geez. This is an internet message board. We read this for entertainment purposes. Most posters (or lurkers) do not believe everything is gospel here. But, like mock drafts, it makes for interesting reading.
If a recruit bases a decision on what he reads on a message board, he was already on the fence.
Things are just as warped on the 'Bama boards, the Florida boards and the USC boards.
And, as a retired journalist, I can speak from experience you're seeing very little REAL journalism these days. Web journalists, broadcast journalists and print journalists are all dipping into the speculation pool these days. Why? Because consultants tell us that's what today's viewers/readers want!
Bottom line, as message boards go, Tiger Droppings is a wonderful site, and I enjoy Below Par's offerings whether they turn out to be 100% accurate or not!

I agree. good post.
False stories about LSU are entertaining, and what harm can they do.
You'd think an opposing coach might actually beleive a post from an internet site and use it to fire up his team, or a recruit might actually read something posted on an internet site and take it to heart when he is being called out.
We all know rumors are harmless, and it's fun to make stuff up.

My thing is this. I don't have any idea who BP is, but he has access to information that none of us have. He doesn't filter it and report it the way a journalist would, because he is not trying to break a story. He is simply doing us a favor of letting us in on stuff he hears. Like someone else said, I wouldn't be surprised if BP just say, "piss on the rant," and not let us in on any potential news. He said there was a good chance that Chavis could leave, which I take to mean Chavis considered whether he wanted to leave or not. He let us know that Miles had "interviewed" Kragthorpe, and we all ran with it that Crowton would be gone. Now people are dumping on him for being wrong? I just don't understand it. The good thing is that I doubt very seriously that BP gives a crap what any of us think about him!

false rumors may hurt BengalBrian and i agree and appreciate your post. however, you are bound to be a "voice in the wilderness". attention whores and gossip mongers abound around here and i swear many, if not most, don't give a damn if they are accurate or not. an old womans bridge club ain't got anything on the Tiger Rant.
and the poster that says all team message boards are the same? that's bull shite, other boards ban people at the drop of the hat. belowpar would be banned on those boards. on here, he is perceived to be the "deep throat" and very few will even read your post and most of those that do will reject it and try to belittle you. personally, i thank you for your post and hopefully, recruits will learn not to buy into the vast resevoir of bull shite that is abundant on the rant.

How many rumors have been killed and prevented from becoming a reality thru the explosing of TD threads?
Never underestimate the power of Tigerdroppings.com
How many coaching looking around, making a couple of phone calls have said to themselves "how does this stuff get out so quick?"...."oh, well, I didn't really want that job anyway"

I don't know all of the facts that precipitated this missive but I agree whole-heartedly with the above quote. I really wish posters claiming to love LSU would think sometimes before they post. Is it really that important to dog Coach Miles on an anonymous website. Is it really a good idea to trash the skills of a possible recruit based on the 30 seconds of YouTube footage you saw.
The notion that recruits (and their parents) don't read or are unaffected by one of the most popular recruiting websites is laughable. These are 18 year-old kids. Of course they love it when they are hyped and they resent it when some internet analyst says they aren't a special player. And, of course, when they come on here and read Maximus and his ilk claiming Miles is destroying the program and needs to be fired, at a minimum it does not send out the "come to LSU" vibe.
Anyway, this site is great for info. But the editorializing is, on the whole, harmful to the LSU football program. It doesn't have to be if people would just "think" and "use their brains."

Great Post!! I like inside information but not if it can be used against us. I want what is best for the program. How can "Chavis is thinking about leaving" be good for the program?

Still no quote link, so this entire thread remains bullshite. That would be on par for TD.
