Where things stand after the spring

quote:

The spring seemed to create for more questions than answers as it pertains to LSU’s quarterback battle with Garrett Nussmeier inserting himself into the competition. Coming into the spring, it seemed like it was a two-man battle between Myles Brennan and Jayden Daniels, but Nussmeier arguably had a better spring than both of them and now the starting job seems completely up in the air. With three guys all with different skill sets battling it out coming into fall, the staff will have some serious decisions to make during the first few weeks of camp. With three quarterbacks who’s styles differ like these three, you need some time to adjust the playbook to the starter’s strengths, so I would not be surprised to see a decision made relatively early on in fall camp.

Predicting the depth chart

QB1: Jayden Daniels

QB2: Garrett Nussmeier

QB3: Myles Brennan

QB4: Walker Howard

The most difficult part is predicting how the depth chart will turn out, but this is how I think things will look week one. With his experience and athleticism, I think Daniels will be the guy that take the field first against Florida State. Kelly and Denbrock have made it no secret that they want a mobile quarterback and Daniels most fits that mold. He did not have the best spring, but with him having just arrived on campus, he will have had a whole summer and fall camp to het adjusted and get used to the team and offense. He may not be the only one that plays early on, but I believe Daniels will be the starter week one due to his experience and what he brings to the offense.

Daniels probably gets some PT to change things up but Brennan and Nuss battle it out with Brennan coming out on top.

starter: Brennan
2nd team: Nuss
change of pace and special package QB: Daniels

I think Kelly said multiple QBs would play come game 1 so this makes the most sense to me. Maybe flip Nuss and Myles but it’ll be one of them starting and Daniels getting some wildcat packages or something.

Excuse me but Brennan is not close to being as talented as Nuss. Nuss is a first round talent and Brennan is not even NFL draftable.

If Daniels sees the field at all in 2022, it will be in wildcat packages.

In fact, if Nuss plays the way he played in the spring game in the regular season, LSU's offense will be very good.

Let’s be honest. This is the same thing that is said to the media every single year in order to keep all of the players happy. In reality, CBK already knows who his guy is.

Nuss was much more impressive in Spring game. However, it was Spring. Many athletes have looked good in Spring and never looked the same in a real game.
Daniels looked mediocre in Spring. However, I searched his game performance his first two years. He never looked that inaccurate in a real game.
I won't be surprised no matter who starts vs Florida St. Brennan has played winning ball with a terrible defense and a weak unprepared OL.
I'm confident one will make us proud..

Winning ball? Lay off the crack. The only team Brennan beat was the worse Vanderbilt team in several decades, while losing to a piss poor Moo State team and a Mizzou team with over half its defense sidelined due to Covid protocols. Moreover, any QB as immobile as Brennan will make all OLs look like shite. He's a freaking statue in the pocket.

You're acting like Brennan didn't throw for 1112 yards and 11 touchdowns in 3 games (in addition to leading the team in yards per attempt)... You're acting like he gave up the 89 points to State (44) and Mizzou (45). I guess you also believe that Max Johnson still beats Ole Miss and Florida that year if they didn't throw a collective 8 interceptions and a shoe.

If Brennan hasn’t stepped up and taken the job considering he’s been here the better part of a decade…I don’t expect that to change now. He’s an above average back up option.
