It’s possible, but historically Jay has experimented a bunch during the fall. Like Casan Evans hitting or Dalton Beck pitching. I think he is kicking tires just to make sure he knows what he has. If Dickinson looks like dansby swanson then he could steal that job. Otherwise it’s probably Braswells’

This. We will never know what we have with Jay until SEC play. He does so much mixing and matching, which probably helps us in the long run, but just makes it tough to get a read. I look more into individual / team drills than these scrimmages. Mic Paul will not fool me as Mr. Fall Ball again.

To be fair, Dickinson broke the record for stolen bases in a season at his former school. We will only be better come February after having to throw this guy out all offseason.

According to stats 6 of the walks and 3 of the hit batters came from two pitchers that haven’t pitched in a year

Jake brown and Lape

Way too early to draw any conclusions

I think someone like Casan Evans getting at bats when he's also expected to pitch (and Jake Brown as well) is a little bit in preparation for the upcoming roster size reduction. We will see more two way players everywhere in the near future out of necessity.

These pitchers could be working on certain pitches they are trying to figure out which could be a reason for so many walks.

this is the thought i was looking for. understood.

this is "development" and at this point, not fine tuning.

thank you.

The obvious thing that stands out is that we have a lot of speed on the base paths. We may lack some power this year as far as numbers of guys that have that tool , so we may run more this upcoming season.

I've said that before and been wrong though. I'm curious if jay has ever had a team that was towards the top of their conference in stolen bases. He just hasn't wanted to run at LSU. I don't know if that's his style or if he just thought that was best for the teams he's had here

This is one of my errors from the first scrimmage, I missed Schimdt's velo during his inning. Perhaps it's in Wild's thread. Also, I may have missed some position changes late in the scrimmage.

Are we 100% sure he threw? He wasn’t supposed to throw yesterday but something may have changed. He sat 95-96 in live AB’s last week and was up to 98.

Does little Pearson’s bat play as a true freshman? Not sure his glove does yet, but do people expect him to be able to handle SEC pitching this year and get run at DH/PH to get him some ABs to take advantage of his pop, or is the plan for him to probably be a year 2 contributor?

If all goes according to plan. Obviously, injuries could factor in, and he’ll get the opportunity in the fall and spring to hit his way into regular PT. Just wondering what the vision is for him coming in this year as a true freshman.

obviously we got Jones.

I would hope Hernandez Milam Beck and Dickinson could be double digit guys too.

Milam had 8 last year and didn’t hit his first until April 19th.

Yeah I didn't see him listed in the BPB or in the brief highlights from youtube.

I don't have any sort of inside knowledge, nor am I a scout, but I think his bat plays at any level. Obviously a very, very small piece of video to go off, but he's got a small load and quick hands. That plays at any level. I know it was a 390 ft fly out, but he's got the hit tools. 1:20 is the timestamp.

His biggest hurdle will be clearing the log jam we have at the corner IF/OF spots.

A lot of this changes based on personnel. Since Jay's been here, we've had a solid 6-7 guys in every lineup who are capable of extra bases or putting one out any given pitch, so I guess he didn't want to run himself out of big innings. We also had horrible luck with executing hit and runs at times. We'll see how it changes with this lineup,

No doubt. But one of the weaknesses of last year’s team was RH pop off the bench that could PH late in a close game and run into one to tie it or give us a lead. That could be a role for him, but Jay will have to find ways to get him some ABs leading up to SEC play, and that’s gonna be hard to do if everybody stays healthy.

Wouldn’t surprise me if a guy like Frey or some other upperclassman(men) that could also play that type of role leaves after the fall for more guaranteed regular PT elsewhere. Looks like the fall is gonna be super competitive, especially in the OF. It’ll work itself out like always, but there will inevitably be some hard conversations and hurt feelings coming up.

I an a lot happier going into fall with a lot of options.

I feel like Jay put a lot of faith in Kling to be an everyday lock at center and it just didnt materialize

Thanks Scuba!

Gotta find Dickinson a spot in this lineup IMO.

Also Jay is gonna love Curiel if he gets on base however possible. Kids got some wheels and runs instinctively on the basepaths from what I have seen so far.

Hate that I had to leave the Box before Schmidt and Fontenot got up on the mound. I had no idea who was warming, but I would've stayed to see these guys knowing now what a shitshow traffic heading west was.
Chalk it up for me as another disadvantage of not having the traditional foul territory bullpen anymore and players warming indoors out of sight.
