most people here were screeching not long ago that lsu is not a place that hires "up and coming coaches"
we are LSU so we get the big name coaches.
But outside of like two big name coaches it's all a crapshoot.

Is that a smart decision for Graves though? As a businessman, you’re not blindly giving away $50m without getting more leverage in return. He shouldn’t be solely responsible for funding Woodwards mistakes.

IMO, Clark Lea makes a lot of sense for us.... has built a solid team basically from the ground up, in the SEC, and would be on the cheaper side, vs. some other bigger name coaches.... what's he been able to accomplish at Vandy in his time there, is impressive
Lea is coaching at his Alma Mater and childhood team. Also he was quite shite without Pavia

Mercy, that chicken costs way too much. When I was at LSU caniacs were $7 and still came with 7 fingers!

Yea let’s see how Lea does without Pavia. Is he another Curley without Favre.

up & coming coach
Elko is 60
He needs to pull Kelly in and ask him if he would be agreeable to a deal. There is zero incentive for Kelly to do that other than he may be tired of the grind. He is 65 and there are no days off in modern college football. If he would waive a year we can buy him out and maintain the roster.
Brohm and Dillingham would be first two calls, but Brohm may already have the PSU job.

Kiffin would 1000% take the job
He's not coming. He's making $9M at ole miss. They would match or beat anything we throw at him. If this position is available, how attractive is it that we fired a guy 4 years in after inheriting a shite show? Yes, Kelly should be doing better, but in the scenario where BK gets fired this year, what makes this job attractive? That also means we've depleted all resources paying him and his staff's buyouts. So the new coach doesn't have shite to spend on NIL b/c it's all going to BK and his staff.
Your options at this point are very likely: 1) keep BK and overhaul the offensive staff. Lots of NIL $ needed to fill the roster as well. OR 2) shell out $70M+ in buyouts and hire someone on the cheap, hoping they work out and don't drive the program further into the abyss.
I hate the situation we are in b/c I don't see a way out of this in the short term.

Insane that people think Lea is an option.
Go look at his record. End of discussion.

If I’m not mistaken, a basketball school just signed their football coach for $92M for 8 years

Cig’s is a special one. You have a school that has absolutely no business competing for a national title and he has them headed in that direction for the 2nd year now.
Its amazing what he’s done with that program, but that’s not really a resume you’d expect to now have the 3rd highest salary and 3rd highest buyout in the country. Especially right at a time when you have at least 4 coaches that have among the biggest buyouts in CFB either fired already (Franklin) or have schools that would love to fire them but can’t because of how huge the buyout cost is (Kelly, Norvell, Stoops)

So, with this logic we would not have hired ANYONE—the only SEC retread we hired (backed into) was CEO and his prior SEC experience would not have warranted a hire.

Do you really think those same people will want to give a lot more money to a HC they have no faith in?
Woody and Austin going to tap into their best fundraising skills next several months to build a portal roster that can compete in 2026.
BK and Unity Field BS not helping matters at all.

You ruined it with the childish “Faggie Coaching Model…”

They then went and found an up & coming coach (not an established guy that's going to want a 10 yr / $100MM contract) and worked it out to pay him in massive incentives while getting through the Jimbo payout.
That's the future.
But can you imagine tMelt if we hired a Sunbelt head coach or a coordinator to replace O?

I want a head coach with solid SEC experience
This is a tired trope. 2 of our titles came from coaches with no SEC experience and the 3rd was a guy that was like 10-30 in the SEC prior

To me if you want to pay high dollar per year you can, but keep the contracts to 4-5 years.

No one is getting these contracts any more and the massive buyouts are gone as well.
Everyone is getting these contracts with the same massive buyouts. What you are seeing is schools sticking with failing coaches longer due to contracts. Watch what Florida and Auburn give their next two coaches in the very near future.

I know this isn’t quite how it works but:
1. We have to make wholesale changes to offensive coaching staff. That’s a given.
2. IF Baker gets an offer/makes a move for whatever reason- you also have to replace defensive staff.
3. The timing of all that would possibly be not optimal - BUT at that point I’d rather just blow the whole thing up and start over from top-down.
Coaching changes are a flip of the coin. Unless someone just falls in your lap through timing it’s typically unpredictable. But if we’re just going to keep playing “plug the hole” with BK - I’d rather us get off the rollercoaster.

Bama seems to be doing alright with a coach who didn’t have SEC experience
The guy initially struggled to replace the best coach in history with the most talented roster in the country. I agree he is succeeding, but I would say he is closer to meeting expectations as opposed to exceeding at this point in his tenure. The next two months will will tell us a lot about him and that program. It certainly looks like they look like they are the best team in the country THIS year.
