If it is an average SEC West team, then it should rank in the middle of the SEC West. That means 4th, with three teams above and three below. Rank the SEC West teams right now in terms of quality and try to find three that you would rank below us. I've got Mississippi State and maybe possibly Auburn. Who else is there?

Judging each team on the schedule right now, it's hard to find more than 5 more wins.

It's hard to find more than three that we can be confident of. To find five to reach your prediction requires beating at least one that would likely be favored if we were playing them this week.

All of the remaining SEC games will be a struggle.

Yep.

Just my opinion.

It's a solid one, even if a tad optimistic, which is certainly understandable.

7-5 at best is "a tad optimistic?" This fricking place.

Look at our remaining schedule and find the six wins it would take to do better. Hell, for that matter, find the five it would take even to get there, never mind better.

Bama and Ole Miss are the only teams that look better than us right now. All other games are close or we look better. I think the offense will look better once we get LF back in his groove. The offense can get a lot better in the next few weeks and they need to if we want to contend for the west. We only have one game with the starting lineup together, it should get a lot better this week as a unit. Special teams and defense are plenty good enough for us to have a chance.

Tough schedule for sure. A lot of good teams in the west. A&m and arky better. Ole miss is very good on offense and at qb. Best 1-2 team u will find. Auburn can run the rock and play defense so they will be a tough win for anyone. I see why your worried. Msu gsme was a fluke with LF fumbling. That just doesnt happen normally. I know msu lost to S. Alabama but they are young and still have talent. They have some players on that front 7 so they will give some teams trouble down the road. I'm feeling good about our D stopping the Qb's for msu and jsu. They had both been really good with read option and we shut that down. With a lot of mobile qbs in the west that's a good sign. We could go 10-2 just as easy as 7-5 because every sec gsme will be close and 1-2 big plays will win or lose the games. We got this!!

Auburn, UF, OM, Aggy, and whomever the remaining cupcakes are. That was tough.

d say that classifies me as a homer. You just don't like the fact that we disagree about Miles. You like him as a coach...I don't and never have. That doesn't diminish my "homerdom" in any way. ?

It doesn't at all. As a homer, you have a false sense of LSU.

And so do others. To think LSU can get any coach in here and just keep winning is a homer thought.

You love the program, but aren't grounded in reality.

If that very good qb turns the ball over 4 times in DV. They arent winning that game.

They have some pieces, but haven't shown they are a complete team either yet.

Yes they do and a lot like the game in 14' the final score has no indication of how dominate we really were in that game. Their front 7 had zero sacks and that is saying something being our offensive line got so banged up in that game.

If Fournette doesn't get the ball stripped out he was spinning around and had a wide open sideline for a 35 yard TD run and we go up 30-6. Hell we might have went up 37-6 by game end the way we were moving the ball on the ground. But instead their QB looses his helmet on a 3rd down play and they bring their back up in on the 4th down and we all know the rest of the story.

This is all semantics but look as definitions 2 and 7 of "homer" from Urban Dictionary. LINK

Y'all ain't homers!

Actually, what you are sounds more like [in the Larry David sense] a "Self Loathing LSU fan"

I'd love to hear rational reasons why all of the above is not true.

I'd love to hear your rational thought as to why we lose those games. All I read was you think we lose some. First off, saying 50/50 we lose 2 of next 3, i don't know how you could get there. You are saying that we have a 66% chance of losing each of those games? That's what your "rational" math would indicate...

My rational reasons. so glad you asked: we are stacked and better in almost every position than we were last year.

We returned among the most starters in the nation.

Some NFL draft projections have us sending up to 7 players in the first round or first 50 picks.

We FINALLY have a QB capable of doing what we need him to do. A guy that will either get the opponent from stacking the box, or we he will throw all over them. We have some of the most talented WRs in the country, and our TE's are getting involved now.

If they don't stack the box, I can't wait to unleash Leonard Fournette on the SEC. I can't wait to watch Guice thrash tired defenses.

Our Defense is getting better every week, and if we can keep winning, come November I see them firing on all cylinders. Key is an absolute freak - on pace for 20 sacks. Neal is looking great. Valentine is getting better every game and he will be a difference maker at bama. Beckwith is a beast.

Jamal Adams flies around the field like Polamalu (ill spare you the Mathieu reference). Tre White is a lock down corner. Tolliver is solid. Jackson is the fasted guy on any field. DB's will be best in country by end of the year.

Special teams could use some work, but they have shown improvement. Growden had a couple monster punts last week. White showed his brilliance in the return game. Jackson showed what he was capable of. Need to see what our FG kicker will be able to do. Nervous there.

Last - Les finally has the QB he has needed to do what he wants. He is spreading it around, opening it up. He hasn't had this opportunity really since 2007 IMO. The only QB he has had since then capable of doing what he needs was Mett - and Mett wasn' ready in 2012, and when he was ready we had the best offense we have ever had, but we had the worst defense in 15 years

They way I see it, we have a team fully capable of being our most talented and well-rounded team in a decade. Possibly defense second only to 2011. Offense 2nd only to 2013.

Aaaaaand....boom goes the dynamite. Thanks for that. Let me call you a cab.

If DE gets a little better - like 260 yrds per game - 3 to 1 TD/INT , I think we win 9

If Etling throws for 260 per game and 27 TDs to 9 INTS in our remaining games, we win everything.

Any given Saturday. And one week at a time.

We'll see how it plays out. There are many things in work here--DE sparking the team; defense tightening up; o-line getting more consistent; new receivers stepping up.

Man, I think we look good. The offense we are running is a lot better. Defense is playing better, as is special teams. We can definitely win every game on our schedule if we keep this up.

This team reminds me some of the 2002 team which got off to a shaky road game loss but got better week after week, culminating in the Tigers crushing the life out of the Gators in Florida. Unfortunately, Mauck was also lost for the season in that game which caused the wheels to come off a bit. Keeping Etling healthy appears to be the key for an improving offense. By mid-season, the Tiger defense may be the best in the league. ST are coming around and the play-calling is opening up. There is a slate full of tough SEC games every year for that matter. This group has a lot of upside IMHO.
