Don’t sleep on Michael Braswell.

Yes he was drafted 5th round but probably only got around 30-40k
Dugas was the first pick of the 6th round and is slotted at around 300K.

Dugas has zero bargaining room so he will probably be offered less than slot so they can spend the money elsewhere.

Problem is what do you do with braswell and incoming infield recruits
Braswell isn’t coming to sit

Braswell was getting benched where he was. He will have to compete like everyone else

My question is how much lower does Dugas take? Just curious more than anything. Will they offer him $5K because they know he wants to play so bad. Why not just give him $500? Why not play for free? How far does the “No leverage” go?

He’s not getting anything approaching slot value

He’ll take what they offer him. Simple as that.

A kid taken in the 7th last year took $1000 so it’s not unheard of.

He has let the staff know he wants to play SS. If he doesn't get a shot at it he won't be happy.

What would be a typical offer in a situation like his?
Posted on 7/10/23 at 5:42 pm to Sofaking2
They’ll offer something as a courtesy. Not sure what a $ amount is. It may be $500 and a plane ticket.

Then why pay anything at all? LOL, just offer him some room and board for tryouts and revisit it later.

I’m assuming if he does well and makes their team(farm system) he will be offered a new contract? Are there other routes? Like being a free agent in an independent league? Playing for nothing? Could he play in Japan, Korea, Mexico, etc.?

It would probably be funny to hear the thoughts of someone that doesn't realize LSU never makes it to the CWS this year without Thompson's contributions.
Funnier is someone that thinks because someone was the best option one season that he would be the best option moving forward. Thompson was a key contributor this year but he’s not ARod or Jeter or even Ozzie Smith, replacing him in 24 is not diminishing his contributions in 23

Correct. Dugas won’t get slot value. He went to the same team as the Nationals. Crews never lowered his price. Other picks besides Dugas won’t get full slot value either.

It’ll be interesting for Thompson. I’m thinking he wants to go pro. Same with Riley Cooper.
