I’ll gladly take JT as my SS any day.

He has been below average for an LSU SS, but he has amazing potential. And he improved tremendously from 2022, which was the worst SS play I’ve ever seen at LSU. I am hoping we shore up that position, either with an improved JT, or with another player.

He had 63 hits each of the last two seasons. You bat 230+ times and play every game and see if you can get 60 plus hits and double digit bombs.

WTH does that have to do with anything? The question isn’t what a random TR poster can do, it’s what can the replacement at SS do. Thompson hit .236 with a slugging percentage of .430 and on base percentage of .365. That is good compared to Tiger Rant posters, but it’s bad compared to the rest of the hitters on LSU’s team. He made some brilliant plays this year but had 17 errors with some very generous scoring.

Thompson was part of a title team. He’s nothing special. Not really a good hitter. Defensively, you kinda just wait for him to meltdown. It’s best for him and LSU if he moves on.

I guess some people just think because the team won everyone on it was indispensable, he made some great play that helped win a game and therefore we wouldn’t have won without him.

And I don’t mean to run the kid down I’m very happy for him that he bounced back in the title winning game with some hits after that disastrous meltdown down in game 2 and an otherwise horrible CWS. But he’s not a good hitter and not so special on defense that he can’t be replaced.
