Expecting championships in year 1 is unreasonable no matter how much money you throw at it

I keep hearing “We didn’t spend over $100 million to not compete for titles right away!”.
Well, it really doesn’t matter how much money you throw at it. Eventually, you see diminishing returns to that money, because it takes time to build a winner. How many titles has Sark won with practically unlimited money?
You have to give your coach time to build a culture and the kind of deep roster that a championship contender needs. Even Nick Saban took 3 years to win a title at Bama, and he went 6-6 with a loss to Louisiana-Monroe in Year 1.
How many coaches in history have won a title in year 1? The only one I can think of in the last 40-50 years is Larry Coker in 2001, and he had probably the greatest roster in college football history handed to him.
Give Lane time to build a winning program here. You can’t rush it into existence by throwing more and more money at it.

Don't think any LSU fan was realistically thinking championship we were thinking maybe playoffs but certainly not near elimination in early October.

I don’t know anyone that expected a championship in year one. We just lost to another first year coach, that has a roster that costs half as much as LSU’s and is filled with coaches and players that LSU didn’t want. It’s ok to be upset about that.

Just wanted to be relevant in November bro. I had 9-3

Nobody expected a natty year 1
But we expected not to lose to mid SEC teams on the road

I do think this is the year we see a 3 loss SEC team in the playoffs. Not saying it's LSU but this NCAA football season has a ton of unexpected losses in SEC/Big 10 right now. It just shows the massive parity going on. It's incredibly competitive because everyone is spending. People are thinking Kentucky is the old doormat Kentucky. Those teams don't exist anymore in the SEC. Even more dumb Stinky went to a 9 game schedule to knock all the SEC teams off for playoffs.
Let's just say hypothetically the season keeps going as it is with all these unexpected losses if LSU slips 1 more game up and then just wins out I think they will seriously considering sliding a 3 loss team in with the tough schedule. Especially if this team shows they're strong the second half of the season which SC did a few years ago and got hosed. SOS is suppose to factor into playoff committee this year we shall see.

Cignetti had Indiana competing in the playoffs year 1 and won one year 2. The big donors shelled out 40 million for this 8-4 team. Winning the playoffs year one is unrealistic. Being competitive with this staff and budget is not. This is simply disappointing.

You're sure about that? I would say that depends on who the starting QB is for Miss State if they will be a problem for LSU or not. Since when is Auburn a gimme win in their stadium any season no matter how garbage they are? That's is a massive trap game people are overlooking. Can't deny historical data just like you couldn't against Kentucky.

bullshite.
LSU bought the #1 coach. The #1 OC. Highest paid DC.
Highest paid QB.
Highest paid LT.
One of the highest paid DEs
The money poured into this team is championship or bust. Playoffs at minimum.
College football is no longer “it takes building” the teams turnover every year because of the money involved.
Every major team replaces a quarter of their team each season.
If he doesnt win out and make the playoffs, this season was a failure

Not reading all of that... nobody was expecting a championship in Year 1.
... but
You dont pay 50+ mil buyout on a coach, spend another 100 on the new guy, spend 40 (allegedly) on a roster, and not make the playoffs.

Kiffin inherited a roster that was going to win 3 games.
They spent a fortune to get a competitive team.
They have lost 2 games on the literal last play.
It sucks but they had no depth to start and on top of that have had an unreal amount of injuries.
The only thing out of whack, as usual, is the unrealistic expectations of most LSU fans.

What would be failure in Year 1? 6-6? Because that's on the table.

Well, LSU does. LSU overpays for everything.

I’m fine with no championship in year 1. I think everyone is.
What I’m not fine with is getting outcoached by first-time HCs Golding and Stein + going 7-5 again.

Expecting to beat Kentucky is not “championship expectations.”

Cignetti made the playoffs in year 1 and won a natty in year 2…
