kinda weird for basketball especially the student section

A lot, maybe even the majority of basketball arenas around the country have the student section located on the baseline. Absolutely nothing wrong with the student section location. It was moved years ago due to lack of student support. The lower and middle sections are pretty much sold out with season tickets, so even if they don’t show up the tickets are still being sold. If students have premium sideline seats and don’t show up then it’s just a waste.

LSU students haven’t packed the student section for a full year since the early 90s. Even the rare great years we’ve had since then, the students don’t come til midway through SEC play.

The only things the PMAC has going for it right now are acoustics and the scoreboard (even though the board operators haven’t had it operating correctly in the first half a few times this year)

Okay I see what you mean. I think Kansas also has that. To me that makes the arena feel really dated and old. Rather have a fully closed arena.

Exactly what a broke town needs. A new tax for a new arena that will be half full and triple concession prices.
seriously shut up, how can you call yourself a LSU fan if you’re ok with the PMAC…go pull for another team

My point is I’m excited for what’s coming, but it really feels like the “PMAC is a dump” narrative is just an example of group think
It's extremely bland and outdated. There are no premium seats outside of the small number of court side seats (that are finally actually court side and not sponsorship board side seats). Have you ever been in the "gold club" or whatever they call it? It's essentially a shittier version of the champions club.

There is one level of concourse and it's the exact same around the entire perimeter of the building. There is really no SRO room. You can argue it's right below the top level of the stadium but ushers frequently move people (who aren't athletes) out of those areas. The entire concourse is closed off from the court. That's a major waste of space and viewing opportunity.

The only positive about the PMAC (outside from the exterior after it's power washed) is the fact that you can sit in the last row of the upper deck and not feel like you're too far away from the action. I would know, I did it as a student and watched Buddy Heild break our hearts.

Better than taxing the public and killing them in front of a money losing arena in a bad part of town (really are no good parts once off campus)

This. Put the student section right on the court like it used to be. Then the environment will get better.

The students stopped showing up with any consistency, which is why it was moved in the first place. LSU could generate more revenue by selling those seats at a premium price. Of course, it's a little bit of a chicken or the egg situation. The students stopped coming because the results were inconsistent. LSU was just as likely to finish at/near the bottom of the SEC as they were to win it. Even during the Wade era where LSU was winning consistently the student attendance was spotty. Now, absent a few games here and there, it's almost non-existent.

LSU doesn't necessarily NEED a new arena. But it would be nice to have one. Particularly with interest in gymnastics and women's basketball being high. But the push for one is two-fold to try to get more events to BR. Right now relatively major acts are routinely passing up BR/River Center for the Cajundome in Lafayette. I'm not anti-Lafayette, but BR is a larger metro area and closer to the NOLA metro that it should be drawing more events.

LOL...cry.much?

I didn't say anything about the place being top teir. Build something else right there. But to move to some city or state run arena halfway across town, that will be a huge loss for all...is as anti-LSU that morons like you would support.

What are you talking about? The PMAC is going to be either rebuilt on campus or down the street by Alex Box. LSU is not permanantly relocating to another part of the city.

Is group think responsible for me sticking to the floor with each step the way a rat sticks to a rat trap?

I'm an LSU fan, not Baton Rouge. It's a dump run by morons, and you know it.

I'm all for anything as an improvement, as long as it's ON campus.
Anything else will NOT be in LSUs best interest and only serve others best interests.

then I misread you, I do agree that to build something off campus is a drain and doesn’t make sence at all … but to not build a new center is am embarrassment for LSU

Terrible coaching hires has definitely affected this program. I hope MMc can win and I would hope to see a renovation. Let Tex and Balaamba buy new stadiums but you've got to attract the fans to pay for it. Men's BB doesn't have the draw to pay for much of anything.

It will 100% be on LSU's property. At worst, it will be by the box. This was in the proposed ordinance.

LSU is not going to build a $300 million dollar facility on the dead president streets. Like why would that even be a question or something to get mad about?

Agreed, but just figure a way to do it right there, or expand PMAC in some way, etc.

Watch this video and you’ll see how outdated it is compared to other modern arenas.

The PMAC is not a bad arena, but it's far from elite, and in order to move our basketball programs up to that next level consistently, elite facilities are necessary.

I think Texas's new arena is certainly what LSU's new/renovated arena should be oriented towards design-wise. It's a beautiful arena. However, one thing to keep in mind is that Texas had a real estate developer that specializes in sports pitch in to help fund the construction. Austin essentially doesn't have any other arenas besides the Moody Center (and previously the Erwin Center). BR has two viable ones that can host big events, but doesn't have the draw that Austin has to consistently put on event after event. Not a attractive situation for private/public partnerships.

I don't think the cost could justify an arena like Texas's, but if we do get a new one like Ole Miss's or Auburn's that would be great. Even a big renovation like UH's and Georgia Tech's old arenas would be satisfactory.
