Do you not worry about Aranda recruiting? Wasn’t it sort of well known that he wasn’t the best at it during his run at LSU?

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

Why just his last 2? Still, how many games por has he been favored anyway? A lot less than Franklin, I’m sure. But again, I’m just playing devil’s advocate—I do not want James Franklin. I want Aranda. Somewhat of a risk, but I think the reward could be a dynastic 10-year run.

It’s all relative Carl. He hasn’t been favored a lot but he’s played with everyone, esp at Ole Miss. And he ran through everyone at FAU. Look at their program history vs what the other coaches there have done.

And I don’t really care what he did 10 years ago as a 32 year old coach. I just understand why someone that age would even be considered for those jobs. Completely unprecedented & for reason. He’s a genius, he just has bouts with immaturity

His defenses still suck.

He's a great OC but in his 4 yrs at USC and now Ole Miss they are giving up so many points per game.

Kiffin’s defenses suck partly because of how fast his offenses score. It’s why Aranda appeared to have lost a step in ‘19. His defense was on the field a ton of plays—a lot of times with very little time between possessions—because our offense was scoring so quick.

Which leads me to 2 concerns regarding him and DCs:

1) it could be hard to hire a good one who has their picks of jobs because you’re never gonna have great defensive stats—gonna inevitably give up lots of yards and points.

2) Do good coaches—who have options—really want to work for him? I’m not sure how he’s thought of by other coaches, but let’s face it—he’s fun, but he’s a douche, and that might be a turnoff to guys who have similar options.

DJ Durkin is a great DC. The only reason he’s even available for Ole Miss is because that kid died at Maryland and made it hard for him to get a job.

Some schools are hard to get talent and building a defensive culture takes time. It’s only year two there.

Kiffin understands the importance of defense.

Franklin is a good coach. He was a coordinator prior to becoming a head coach. He won 9 games at Vandy. Twice! He took over at Penn State when they were still under sanctions with scholarship restrictions. They aren’t exactly a recruiting hotspot and he is in the Big X at the same time tOSU and CUM were running over everyone and he still has had double digit wins and won a conference championship.

I’d like someone with more NFL experience as he only had one year at Green Bay, but he’s a good coach. You can say you don’t like him, but he is a really good coach and there’s a reason he’s mentioned by a lot of people. He’s do a really good job at LSU with a solid recruiter on staff.

They are fine but will give up points when they play a real offense

They are consistently good... Kirby's had a top 10 defense every year he's been a HC same with the other schools I listed as well.

You said it yourself you want consistency. I do believe the days of holding opponents go goose eggs are gone but still have a top 10/20 defense matters.

Besides Saban, who doesn’t when they’re favored in almost every game? And Saban’s had his fair share himself.

To be clear, I am not arguing FOR James Franklin, just saying I’m not sure how fair that is. But I may be wrong, I’d actually like to see some actual numbers. Lane may be 5-0 against teams he’s been favored against his last 2 stops. Franklin may be 70-10. Sample size would be too different to make a fair judgement.

I worry about Kiffin recruiting as well

2020-35
2021-17
2022- 30

This year isn't over so his class can get better.

Dabo, Riley, Kirby, Saban, Day are good HC but they also do so much in recruiting. I worry Kiffin doesn't haven't this type of grind. His offenses speak for themselves but you have to recruit to make it to CFP and win it all.

I’m not talking 50-50 games

I’m talking flat out losing to inferior opponents regularly.

I hear ya and am ready to get off this particular topic. But one last point. If he comes to LSU, starts killing it in recruiting, has our talent level above every team in the SEC besides Bama and Georgia (but close enough to them where we’re may be favored against them at home), and starts playing 11 games every year against “inferior” teams, you don’t think he’ll start losing those games occasionally?

What about it?

7-6. 12 years ago and completely quit on the program like he didn’t care.

What he did at FAU was incredible though. They were winless in the season before he got there and in year 2 he went 11-3 and then had another 10 win season

Same can be said for Napier at ULL and people are whining about him.

ULL was bowling in hudspeths second to last year. And went 5-7 and .500 in conference in hudspeths last year.

So no the same can’t be said for Napier. Also Napier’s only conference title is an asterisk title where he lost in the regular to coastal Carolina and they had “split” title due to covid cancellation. It is the ultimate participation trophy and the equivalent of the ole miss 2003 sec west championship.

Napier has also not performed anywhere else as a head coach. Kiffin has and has had decent results outside of Oakland. Even at usc in a power 5 conference he has a ten win season.

Napier is nowhere close to kiffins resume. Kiffin isn’t my number 1 but you can’t argue that Napier’s resume is comparable.

Now add in Vandy performance pre and post Franklin. If I am not mistaken, they almost upset us when Les was coaching.

Not saying he is the best coach in the world, but he had Vandy extremely respectable in the SEC and that is saying something. I believe he could come here and have a lot of success with the talent rich state we have.

Kiffin has not done anything of significance anywhere but FAU. One 10 win season at USC.

you are omitting the time as a great OC
