You’re right being liked doesn’t get you to Omaha. Winning the regionals and the the Super Regional gets you to Omaha. Those start in late May

Time to give him a big thank you for all the great things he has done and move on to a new chapter in LSU baseball.

Seem to have too many pitching injuries, general inability to hit quality pitching, and speed that we do not see to use on the bases.

And PM's teams aren't strong defensively. Defensive errors, base running errors, that's all on the coaching staff. Thank You for the great memories Paul, but it's time to move on.

2 things they simply can’t get past the football mind set. He proves in the OP with all the comparisons to Miles. They are also warped by Skip’s run in the 90s.

I’m not going to quote your entire post but I 100% agree. No coach is infallible, though most of the in game decisions people gripe about are with 20/20 hind sight. The thing about the coaches most point to is the hitting coach. Maybe that’s a legit point, maybe there is a hitting equivalent of Dunn but we’ve had good hitting teams it’s hard for me to say how much it matters in a sport where the best fail 65-70% of the time. But yes things can get stale at some point but that will be when the program slides and we have no way of knowing that in mid season. Last year was a down year and we still were a 2 seed in the regionals. We’ve seen 3s and even a couple 4s make Omaha. We last made it in 2017 if we get to 2021 and still have been back we’ll then we can say it’s stale but we could still make it this year so I’ll reserve judgement until the season is over

Some baseball fans melt every time Coach Orgeron speaks.

It ain't so.
Two years ago, LSU was in the CWS finals. Miles never sniffed BCS after 2011 until he was rightfully canned in 2016.
Mainieri still knows how to manage and adapts. I would say that Mainieri should consider shaking up his coaching staff but that's his decision.
UF is not having a good year up to this point but no one is saying O'Sullivan has lost it. Virginia nearly went into the tank after winning it all but no one has suggested they replace O'Connor.

But they do say those guys would be massive improvements at LSU

PM never sniffed greatness like Miles. Miles went undefeated in the regular season, beating Satan's (Saban) Alabama team at Alabama in the process. You suck at this!

This may be the worst thread of all of the anti-CPM threads.

This team has too much talent to to be as inconsistent as they have been. The team can still be successful and underachieve, which is happening right now. And it’s more the fault of PM & how poorly he built this roster. He’s made some outright weird decisions when you start to think about it. Starting with cutting Reid & the LH/RH balance both hitting & pitching

True motivation? Force PM to make coaching changes, why is that so hard for Paul? Don't want to fire him, but damn it, LSU will not improve with this crew. Shouldn't be paying PM's buddies to learn how to coach.

you can’t argue with some of these. They will pick 1 thing, like Cabrera’s base-running error in the ninth, and use that as “they do that all the time”. They won’t look at the thousands of other little things that happens during a game. Look at the Hughes play or when an outfielder makes a great defensive play. They always say defensive alignment wasn’t a factor anything to do with the outfielder being able to get there. It’s all about athletic ability and luck. I umped and coached for nearly 40 years and can tell you without a doubt, he is still an excellent coach.

Orgeron succeeds because he has great assistants. Name someone PM has, name an Aranda or Joe Brady, he has none. Every coach makes mistakes, when Paul's making a mistake, there's no one on his staff with the smarts to help correct them.
