The finger guns after a strike out?

Why do they play into this so so much? They likely just have no clue and think it’s so awesome.

Remember when the world went berserk after Kyren Lacy pointed an imaginary gun at somebody?

That was an absolutely stupid and idiotic thing to do…. It was both arrogant and dumb AF.

Okay. Maybe (?). It’s still harmless. I’m just struck at the blatant double standards of it all. I see players drawing and shooting arrows all the time. Braves fans mimic scalping people and Florida State fans throw imaginary spears at opponents. What’s the difference between Washington Bullets and Buffalo Sabres? Both weapons for killing people. How many lives have been saved by renaming the Red River Shootout or taking away Pistol Pete’s guns and renaming him?

Had he “shot the shotgun” at the air, there would have been no penalty.
He directed it at an opposing player…. He singled him out, looked him directly in the eye and pumped the imaginary shotgun.
He was RIGHTFULLY called for taunting….. it was absolutely trashy.

I don’t like all the celebrating at all! Especially, when a team is down, and a player makes a play, then gets up and dances and struts… you’re losing, dumbass!…
Getting excited, jumping up and down with your teammates, etc… yes, absolutely! Get excited! Show emotion…
But showboating is stupid!
“Look how great I am!”

As for the other stuff you talked about like, taking pistol Pete’s guns… yes. That’s stupid AF. But it’s a different topic all together.

At their opponents? I’ve never seen someone shoot an arrow at someone like Lacy did with his shotgun celebration.

Are you talking about the tomahawk chop? That’s quite a stretch

quote:

I’ve never seen this. When did they start this?

quote:

renaming the Red River Shootout

Again, idiotic

But do you seriously not see a difference between tomahawk chop or crowd organized finger guns, and lacy coming away from a team celebration to turn and look directly at a player, hold up an imaginary shotgun pointed right at him, and pretend to shoot him?

We agree on all this, but taunting in football happens ALL THE TIME. It happens, it’s penalized (or it’s not), and everyone forgets it 30 seconds later. However, the Lacy incident made national news because of the gun imagery. It just seems silly to me that imaginary guns makes it impossible for some people to deal with, and elevates a 15 yard penalty into a national outrage.

If you can’t understand the difference between a football player pretending to shoot an opponent with a shotgun after scoring a touchdown and some students doing finger pistols as a western movie clip plays on the video board… then I cant help you

When you pantomime murdering someone as a celebration after a touchdown, it is taken as a threat. It’s also extremely trashy….

I hate to pile on a young man that is no longer with us…

But, this does appear to have been indicative of deeper character problems.

It’s their culture.

It’s not an act. Homosexuality is embedded there.

Well, that would be assault, which is illegal. Did you want the police to stop the game, and haul Lacy off in handcuffs for making “a threat?” Do you imagine the other team put their players in kevlar and hire extra security for their walk to the bus?
