they were protesting systemic racism in the law enforcement and judicial system.
They were protesting the flag and the anthem for their supposed purpose of addressing "systemic racism in the law enforcement and judicial system. " Certainly, you see the difference, right?
For example, they could have been "protesting systemic racism in the law enforcement and judicial system" and decided to protest by burning the flag. It's the same goal...same "good intention". Should people not be offended by that?
If the protest involved Reid running to the stands and spitting in someone's face, would people be rightfully offended by that?
The point is that "HOW" you protest is important. These guys chose the anthem for a purpose. They wanted an uproar. They wanted the attention. I know, because otherwise, they would have realized that people were being offended and modified their protest. They didn't. They doubled down. They called people who had a problem with the protest racist. Eric Reid doesn't get it.
The harsh cold reality is that Eric Reid can't move the way he used to and he's concussion prone. I think he's done as a player. It would be interesting to see what he ran the 40 in these days. Eric Reid is in denial. He's blaming his protest because he doesn't want to face the truth.

Oh, so he finally realizes what he's paid the big bucks for...and it's not for his intellect or his political point of view. Just play football, dumbass! Don't use the big stage of a televised football game to dishonor our national pride so that you can look cool for a greater good.
Donate some of your money directly to a struggling family and raise them out of the gutter. Notice I didn't say "black" family..that's because social injustice does not necessarily pertain to black families. That's how YOU can make a difference!

I agree Reid and anyone has a right to protest for anything. That is what makes us so great. I've traveled extensively in my career. Some real shite holes out there and trust me, a bad day dealing with some liberals in the US is way better than living in 90% of the rest of the world. The freedom we enjoy in the US is a much different level of freedom than anywhere else I've been. Freedom to really be anything you want to be in our country. Its much tougher to penetrate the socioeconomic levels even in places in the EU. Check out the #s of 1st generation deca millionaires in the world and see where the vast majority still come from...
Protesting the symbol of your right to protest seems silly to me. The flag is the symbol above all others in the US that should be honored.
I'm not angry at Reid nor any other NFL player for protesting it. Its their right. Like many though, I quit watching the NFL totally. At 1st, I still watched the Saints and some games, the increasing protests got me more aggravated so I wanted to watch less and less games. I didn't watch 1 play of the Super Bowl.
Every time I hear the anthem and salute the flag I'm thinking of my grandfather (died due to injuries in combat) my father who served in Korea for 2 years on the front line and my father in law who retired after VietNam as full bird Col. I don't kneel, I take off my cap, and I pay my respects for that 1 minute to those 3 specifically and every other poor bastard who served our great country especially in times of horrific war.
Reid can do what he wants. I can do what I want and so can the private owners of NFL franchises.

Good for him. Colin Kapernick also said he would stand and still was not signed. I hope Eric Reid gets signed.

If our beloved media would drop the coverage and let things unfold naturally we'd all be better off

If Reid, as the rest of his buddies, don't love our country why don't they vote with their feet and move to a "workers paradise" like Cuba??

I’d offer him league minimum.

I hope Eric Reid gets signed if he is worthy.

What a hero!! Protest on your own time, people will respect that.
Let's put up a statue of Kaepernick and Reid kneeling down at Lee Circle.

Sorry about your nephew and I thank him for his service.
But whenever anyone uses this type of rebuttle in any way, it proves that they lack the depth to really engage in this conversation. For one, the players have already said that the protest IS NOT in any way against the military and they fully support the military. Secondly, him kneeling doesn't hurt the troops and won't prevent us from bringing any troops back to life. I have lost close friends in Iraq, also. When people bring this into this particular conversation, it is because they don't know how to make a relevant point against the peaceful protest. It's basically an emotional straw-man argument. "Can't believe he would disrespect my friend who died serving this country", when that isn't what he was even protesting against.
Third, and this is entirely true, you're all the biggest snowflakes in the world for getting so upset about a grown man doing something that doesn't hurt literally anyone.

I think that no, people should not be offended. Because no one is getting hurt. I'm not a snowflake though, so we come from different backgrounds and I can see how you would.

Yes, because in this instance the protest is adversely affecting the lives of innocent people.
It isn't really that hard.

Actually he does hurt people. He hurts anybody who follows his advice and follows the ruinous path of racial division, Identity politics and putting his fellow Americans in cartoonish categories of victim and victimized. I’ll stick to the content of a mans character and you Progressives can have your tribes. Then let’s meet back in a generation and see which was the wiser path .

It's actually very impressive for attacking him for dividing America and then in the very next sentence, make this statement:

Incredible. You win the thread

I appreciate the formal capitulation. But really, anybody who reads the thread realizes you capitulated as soon as you opened your mouth . Oh well, critical thinking isn’t for everybody.
